I'm loosing faith in my Marauder! I just changed my starter last week, and I'm having trouble starting her up again. We arer buried under snow here and i went out last night to start her up to warm up and turned the key...nothing. Then i turned the key and held it for a few seconds and she fired up. Turned it off to see if she would fire up again....nothing! What the hell is going on with my car!?

You really need someone to tell you if you are getting power to the starter and go from there. Without that, you are merely guessing.

On a side note, have you swapped keys and tried that? My key took a crap last week with no warning at all.

I had used my valet key before, i dont think this is a key issue. It has to be something else. I had no problems after the starter was put on for a few days...then last night...trouble. I changed the ignition switch before i did the starter. Its strange cause if i turn the key and hold it there she will fire up sometimes, but not all the time.

Have you checked for corosion on the relay contacts? Sounds like a relay issue since you replaced the ignition switch AND the starter. You really need to get a test light when doing starter related issues. These are usually the simplest things to diagnose.

 Is all i have to say:lol:

Its funny everbody insisted it was the starter, Again I will say that I think the problem is in the power(S terminal circut) to the starter. Possibly the neutral saftey/ transmission range switch.
EDIT: I have personally had 2 of said switches go bad on me, 1 on a 95 CVPI and the other on my 97 Explorer.

Can you start the car in N - neutral?

Yes and no. It was suggested as a possible culprit by one or two guys being nice and offering advice, but thats all one can do without being there and testing it. That thread more or less turned into a how to change a starter thread once he decided that was what he was gonna do. Fact is there is a handfull of things that could be bad, without a test light and starting with basics, your are pissin in the wind replacing parts.

I tried to start it in neutral before i replaced the starter ans still nothing. I think the starter I replaced was still good cause it was doing this with the old starter too. I swapped the relays before i put the new starter on and it wasnt that. I'm just confused...this car is crazy!

Seriously, get a $10 test light. It would be alot easier for us to help you and not help you guess. Plus that is a tool that you will have many more uses for down the road.

I would definitely replace the Neutral safety switch as stated earlier. That would be my next move. You also might want to post on CV.net. They have a great deal of good expertise on Panther cars.

The best advice here yet. Unless you LIKE wasting money replacing every part that some hack on here THINKS is bad, you should TEST the parts they are blindly telling you to replace. Any auto parts store can test a starter on the bench and tell you if its bad or not. Other than that the test light should be able to tell you where your problem is before you go wasting more money.

Have to agree Bob.

How about you use a test light, and check and see if power is even getting to the starter, before you waste money on a starter you may not need. I am willing to bet its either a PATS system problem or neutral saftey switch.

Hope the hack part is not directed towards me, If it is oh well could really care less.

Naw, man. Not directed at anyone. I'm just saying its easy to say "replace this" when its not your money at risk.

Very true.

Absolutely, it never pays to start swapping parts before knowing what is wrong.
Buy the test light or better yet buy a $20 digital meter from RS and do voltage drop tests. that way you can also easily find connections/wires bad and just fix what is wrong.

Not sure if there is alot of difference between 03 and 05 but I figured this would give you a better understanding of a complex system.
