View Full Version : You've Really Got A Hold On Me

Here is something that's never happened to me before. I was driving The Marauder today and was approaching an intersection. Someone in a Honda Fit was in front of me going rather slow and I knew I wasn't going to make the light. Just as he's approaching the intersection the light turns yellow, I go into the left hand turning lane and give it half throttle and blast off and make the light, passing the Honda and "safely" making it through.
When I gave the car gas the seat belt tightened up. I've only had this happen when slowing down, not speeding up or at least not that I have noticed. Even making 12 second passes, not once did I notice the seat belt holding me down like I slammed on the brakes.
Is this normal? How did I trigger it?
Oh ya, this came into my mind..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nf4QcOzTT24

My Cobra does that all the time, I would think that Marauders are programmed similarly.

Hopefully there isn't a "Photo enforced camera" there. I think thats a $200.00 buck ticket in the mail soon. Everybody is slowing to almost a complete stop now just for yellow lights. More city REVENUE!!!

Dom,
I believe there's a device, somewhat similar to a pendulum (the thing that moves back and forth on a grandfather clock), which causes the seatbelt to lock under a severe impact; whether it be acceleration (rear impact) or deceleration (front impact). This is probably what triggered your seatbelt light.

I was driving The Marauder today and was approaching an intersection. Someone in a Honda Fit was in front of me going rather slow and I knew I wasn't going to make the light. Just as he's approaching the intersection the light turns yellow,[in the eyes of the law it is green or red!] I go into the left hand turning lane and give it half throttle and blast off and make the light, passing the Honda and "safely" making it through. No such in my book just stop!
When I gave the car gas the seat belt tightened up. I've only had this happen when slowing down, not speeding up or at least not that I have noticed. Even making 12 second passes, not once did I notice the seat belt holding me down like I slammed on the brakes.

Exactly!!!
Next time we'll hear about how someone t-boned him or how he sideswiped someone.....
Is it worth your life or someone else's life to wait 3 minutes for a light change?

But if he totals his car, that makes mine that much more valuable. Keep up the good work.

What do you mean next time? There never was a time. My life yes, I don't know the other guys life story.
Leon, there is no camera in that intersection and it'll snap a photo if the car crosses the line after the light has turned red. You decrease your chances of getting a ticket if you hit the gas and get past the line before the light turns red. A few times I had to slam the brakes to stop, but I stopped beyond the line... even by a foot and got a ticket in the mail. Now I have to slam the gas to avoid the ticket.
Real cute hua?

OK... I hit the brakes now for the yellows, they change to red too fast for me. Now I'm worried, I think I reacted to slow Sunday and may have slid across the line, S***!

Hey Motorhead 350 did you ever stop to think that maybe just maybe a fully loaded tractor trailer (80 tons) or a tour bus (27 tons) might be comming the other way?
Just a thought.

Yes. A few years ago I was hoping one would run into me on my drivers side door. This was before the Marauder and my truck doesn't have side airbags.
It's not as bad as it seems Jim's, the light was yellow.

Again in the eyes of the Law it is RED or GREEN.

After enough tickets growing up, I stop at ALL yellow lights now! I probably racked up 10 tickets for that while in my yout. Around here they snap the photo if there is no chance of you making the trek thru the intersection (rear bumper included). It's all in the timing.

Two guys in a car drive right through the red light. "Man, you just ran that red light!" exclaimed the passenger.
"Don't worry, my brother does it all the time," said the driver.
They continue driving through town and then proceed to drive through another red light.
"You just ran another stop light! You're going to get us killed!" screamed the nervous passenger.
"Don't worry, my brother does it all the time," repeated the driver.
Moments later, they approached a green light and the driver slammed on the brakes and came to an abrupt stop.
"Why are you stopping?" asked the anxious passenger.
The driver turned and said, "Because my brother might be coming!"
