Has anyone tried using 3M's Clear Polyurethane Films to protect portions of their MM? Examples are lower 6 to 12 inches of body sides and areas behind rear wheeels.
I started investing this stuff about 8 months ago for my Vette and now I have ordered some for the MM to use in conjunction with new FORD Rear Splash Guards. I ordered 4 inch wide stuff for inside the rear wheel wells and 6 inch for the lower parts of the REAR Fascia behind the rear wheels.
A company in San Antonio TX, by the net name of X-Pel.com sells it in bulk and in kit form. They list the Crown Vic and the GM, but not the MM. I imagine that a call to them would start the design process moving for FRONT END and Mirror protection in the same material. I am just goign to cut my own pieces to fit what I want to do.

Hey GordonB,

Several months ago I responded to a thread on car-bras with links to several 3m sites. Didn't get any feedback from the forum.

Car Axent has exact 3m kits for the Marauder front end. I am very interested in this as opposed to the temporary carbra from Ford/Mercury. I am going to look seriously at this before I get too many miles on her!

I had the clear 3M film put on my car almost as soon as I bought it. I've got it on the front end as well as behind the wheel wells and on the side mirrors. It was pricey, but worth it to me for the peace of mind. They couldn't do the grille slats but pretty much everything else on the front end is covered, and I have been very happy with it. I would still like to get front and rear mud flaps, though. I thought rear ones weren't available for the Marauder...tell me about these new FORD ones you mentioned..

Kurly,
Thank you for your reply. Somehow I missed your post from several months ago. Glad to know that someone has a front end kit for the MM. Did you install it yourself. I think I can do flat or slightly curved surfaces myself. Can't be any worse than doing metal window film on skylights above your head on a ladder!

Johnman,
Glad to see you too have a Dark Blue Pearl MM.
I had an appmt with a person to install 3M film on my Vette at the beginning of April but the guy was a No Show and never heard from him again -- AND the price was HIGH. Hence, my desire to try something onmy own.
To answer your question about REAR Mud Flaps, you need to order Part Nbr F8AZ-16A550-CA ('98 CV and up)from any Ford or LM dealer or one of our Supporting Dealers or whereever you get a GOOD parts discount! I just received mine on Friday afternoon. They should fit fine using the supplied screws and either double faced tape or silicone adhesive. You will notice that the Rear Fascia where it turns into the wheel well is VERY EXPOSED after the install -- hence the need for something like the 3M poly product to cover the exposed, painted surface. I also plan to cover the lower 6 inches of the area behind the rear wheels (bumper wraparound portions).

Thanks for the info, GordonB. I had heard that the GM/CV rear mudflaps wouldn't work on the MM. If it doesn't provide much coverage, though, aftermarket ones might be better. As for the clear tape, I think I'm going to add some to the top of the rear bumper-I've found that it is very susceptible to scuffs from heavy objects being lifted in or out of the trunk.

Johnman and others,
The alternative for the rear CV Molded Mud Flaps might be the Medium sized ones from Ziebart if you can find a dealer near you. Good luck.

Do a search on X-Pel. This has been discussed a couple times. Seem's like at least one of our members has tried the stuff. And they actually have a kit for our cars. You don't need to buy it in bulk.

I was thinking of putting the 3M film under the door handles. Has anyone tried this?

Silver_'04,
Thank you for the good suggestion. I ordered 4 inch and 6 inch wide 3M material and I'll be sure to make a template and put some under each (4, ugh) door handle.
