Hey Guys
I removed my driveshaft to install a loop and have it rebuild. It turned out great. However after reinstalling it I now have a leak some where I have fluid spray all over my rear bumper and smell burning fluid from my pipes when I get out of the car. Could I have damaged the rear tranny seal ??? Where could it come from ??? She does not leak when she sits only when she is running.

Have you looked under the car yourself yet?

Kinda hard for us to find a leak over the internet!

Possibly damaged the rear seal. Did you change to 4.10 gears and keep the stock driveshaft?

I have had 4'10 gears w the stock shaft and never had a problem until I had the shaft re- jointed and balanced. I ran the stock shaft for 55k w no leaks go figure.

Yes, I have looked and neither the pan or lines are wet.

What is wet with fluid?
The top? Sides?

Most of the under body from the tranny back. The tranny is dry all the way around. Sorry took me a bit to check. I had to wait until she was cold enough to touch.

You might have scored the tailshaft bushing and or damaged rear tailshaft seal.

You need a driveshaft. Check the seal, it's probably pushed out of the tailshaft housing. Common with 4.10 gears if the driveshaft isn't upgraded.

Add some trans fluid now. I assume a new seal in the tailshaft housing isn't hard to do.

Why were you getting the driveshaft balanced? Vibrations?

Order the Dynatek driveshaft from http://www.renihartautomotive.com

Very interesting post. Sure sounds like an out of round drive shaft. A friend of mine had an Impala SS. reworked the ECM... top speed way too high for the D/S . tranny started leaking along with a drone from the drive shaft at 60 miles per hour.
