Hi guys, I just bought an 03 Marauder with high mileage (161k) but it is pristine condition inside and out. Not a dent or scratch and the leather is perfect. Truthfully I wasn’t familiar with the Marauder but my brother in-law “made” me buy it. He took in trade on a loaded Mustang GT and said in all his years in the business it was the cleanest trade he ever saw, so I got the check book out.
I already replaced the bulb on volt meter (did both gauges) disappointing to learn of the oil pressure gauge. I grew up on cars with gauges and was excited to have one again, maybe I’ll switch it out.
The car seems to be 100% stock but they seemed to think the exhaust was upgraded to a Flowmaster, how can I tell.
Where or how can I find the history on the car?
Given the high mileage what things should I be on the look out for?
Thanks

:welcome: You've got yourself a very special and unique ride, enjoy!
1. PM RoyLPita with your VIN, he can run an OASIS report on the car.
2. The cars are actually quite reliable, biggest issue is with minor electrical problems, all of which are pretty easy to repair.
Enjoy the site, and stop by often.

Welcome and congratulations, high miles but these cars age very well especially if maintained well. Lets see some pics of your new ride.

I'll post some pics as soon as we get some decent weather. It was somebody's baby and very well cared for. I bought it on the spot so I didn't do any research but I'm hoping that someone who took such good care of the exterior and interior took care of the mechanicals as well.

That is high miles, but I'm guessing the previous owner did alot of freeway driving.
I'd top off/ change all the fluids and watch for any consumption, especially oil consumption, for a few weeks. Mechanical parts for these cars are easily available, so I think you could basically drive one for the rest of your life if you wanted (I'm gonna try).:)
:congrats: on the car and :welcome: to the site.
We have a big meet in Carlisle Pa. in June 4th - 6th

Where or how can I find the history on the car?
Here's the link to the Marauder Wikipedia entry that gives some of the history >>>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Marauder
and here \/\/\/\/\/ the Marauder Owner profile as posted in April 2004
Rob is correct above...although, we ALL know there never was any REAL advertising (don't start!). Here is where the 2% came from below. We found Ron Rush's website back in the summer of '02 and posted the excert below which is still on his website today (I STILL say Rush L/M is one of the BEST "Marauder Dealers" in the country...you should check out the "Marauder Section" on their site) http://www.rushlincolnmercury.com/ .
I posted the following and it became known as the "2%'ers"

The Marauder Customer
The 2003 Marauder appeals to the customer who wants an aggressive, fast vehicle. They are pro-American and like to live on the edge. Marauder provides them with a great deal of driving pleasure while still meeting their concerns for safety and security, operating costs, easy ingress/egress and value for the money. This customer may have wanted a Mustang Bullitt or Cobra but really needs the passenger space. This page represents a close look at the demographics, needs, expectations and overall mind-set of the target Marauder customer.
Key Demographics
The Target Marauder customer tends to fit within these averages:
Gender - 80-85% male
Income -$60-80k
College educated - 60%
Married - 65%
Average age - 45
Target Customer
Marauder's target customer:
Is a performance vehicle enthusiast and has good technical sense
Is likely to do extensive research on most of his purchases
Will have a strong opinion on what he wants
Has to be active, have fun and be engaged in life
Needs to be true to himself, takes pride and gives 100% in whatever he does
Craves excitement and exhilaration
Has a need for authenticity, integrity and dependability from people, products and services
The target customer also responds primarily to these Passion Points:
Love for cars
Need to set themselves apart
Attention to detail based on knowledge
Need for quality and assurance
Spending time with family and friends
Cost and the Customer
The typical Marauder customer is cost-conscious and is often of the following mind-set:
Willing to pay a premium for a vehicle but only if it resonates closely with "who he is"
Higher priced products driven solely by image offer no appeal to him
Marauder will be part of the household fleet, so image and power are not his only concerns --- it must also have the functionality to accommodate his everyday needs
Cost of ownership is a consideration --- dependability and reliability are important to him --- he expects quality from the product he buys
Aftermarket kits will likely be purchased and will be considered part of the Marauder purchase
