Hello guys I have a question. I'm going to install aero turbine 2525 & magnaflow resonator delete tips. Do I have to extend the tips out 1 1/2 inches out because of drone or is that only if I would be instaling flowmasters? Sorry if it's a dumm question but I'm kind of new at this
No need to buy the magnaflow resonator delete tips unless you want to. You can remove the resonator from your oem tips. I'm sure someone with aero turbine's will chime in about drone issues if any. With my setup I have the oem tips, installed magnaflow mufflers and removed the 2nd set of cats. I don't have any problems with my setup

Install aero's first. If they drone then move the tips a little outward.

Not a dumb question, but extending the tips can help cut down on the drone in the cabin. If you have stock mufflers right now make sure you tell whoever is going to install the new mufflers to transfer over the weights off the mufflers also.
If you already bought the tips I would get them installed, if not see if you can get the resonators removed from the factory tips and then get them extended out.

this is what i observed
i had a completely stock exhaust and i installed a the 2525's and 4inch deletes and the weights were NOT added back and the tips were pushed further under the bumper.
the drone was NO different then stock, maybe even better. i really liked this setup.

Weights have nothing to do with the drone, its the vibration resonance that can happen. I can clearly hear it on mine when I had flowmasters and after the aero turbines were installed. Give it a tad more throttle and it goes right away, only happens at certain speeds and rpms.

How big a deal is it to gut the resonators? What will that do to the sound?
Thankee.

Cut the tail pipe tip from the exhaust tube. Grind down the welds and knock the resonator(the thing inside the chrome tip) out with a drift(aka pry bar) and a hammer. Then have it welded back on. It will look oem and be a little louder;). if this sounds like to much you can buy some new tips from http://www.coneeng.com/exhaust_tips.html part #ST627 inlet is 2.25" and the main tube diameter is 3.50". They are a 26" overall length with an angle cut outlet. The are 100% 18 gauge 304 stainless steel that is bright polished
Thanks. I'll review the options.

Is a weight that is bolted to the exhaust pipe. It changed to point of resonance. Think of the people that shatter wine glasses with there voiced. You have to hit the perfect pitch(point of resonance) to make the glass shake itself so hard it brakes. You can change the point of resonance buy adding or removing weight(other things can affect it too). The panther cars were plagued with exhaust drone with first produced. So Ford's cheap and effective fix was to hang some weight from the exhaust

I had a slight drone with my 18" Magnaflows and added the damper weights back.....VOILA....DRONE GONE!!!:bows:
Now ALL the exhaust "music" is behind the car!!:D

i installed the aero's and was forced to move the hangers back. i did not install the vibration isolaters and the floor boards do vibrate a bit at idle.

I hit my perfect pitch (point of resonance) quite often when driving mine so much I get dash pieces creaking from vibration. lol

Or you could just make your own. On "Musclecar" on Spike TV, a couple of weeks ago they made their own mufflers for their "Altered Ego" Mercury Comet project car. They took 2.5" pipe, drilled a lot of holes in it, wrapped it with steel wool and fiberglass, cut out some end pieces, and put it in some 4" tubing, welded it all up and called it good.
Probably not the way that I would go since they're just essentially home-made glasspacks. You could've bought them a whole lot quicker and cheaper, but if you're handy, it would be neat to say "I made my own mufflers".

I think they would sound a lot better with an H-pipe on our cars.

similar thing happens to me whenever i let a stinker go creaking from vibration. lol:beatnik:
