What grade & type bolts should I use on engine componets such as intake manafold intercooler & accessory bracks ?
What is the best way on how to determin thread type & bolt size ?
Most everything is 8x1.25.
I suggest going to the junkyard and RAPING Mod motors for bolts.
I do it once a year and have never had to go to the store for bolts/nuts.

Great suggestion. I will line my best blue jean pockets.

You can fill an entire tool box up with hardware and they will prolly charge you 5 bucks.

Sounds beter than a True Value.
Forgot to mention the bolts they give you with Kooks headers work GREAT for bolting the Eaton to the lower Manifold.

Other than stainless steel what is normally used ?
Grade 8 is a good strong bolt(6 marks). I use them on my lower intake so I can reuse them when I lift the motor. :)
Overkill in most other applications.
I dont even use grade 8 bolts to pull the engine out!

Boltdepot.com get all stainless hardware, you average ace wont have the lenghts you need for the relocation bracket and tensioner bracket, getting hardware from other mod motors is not a bad idead either. That hardware has a nice zinc heat treat coating and doesnt rust to easy. Most of the hardware on the motor is 8.8 hardnes basically the metric version of grade 5 (three lines on the head) standard hardware. Hardened metric hardware starts at 10.9 and I dont feel its necessary for most of the aplications on the eaton swap. The stainless metric is not really hardness graded but hopefully should be equivalent to grade five or 8.8 hardware. The hardness ratings are also a good trick to quickly identify metric and standard hardware by sight use this knowledge to impress your friends:D

I have always wanted to learn about all the different bolt types. Such as grades of materials used. How to identify types, understanding different thread types and torque stretch on grades.
I dont even use grade 8 bolts to pull the engine out!
Dude, as many times as you have done it, you can probably levitate them out by now!!!

Two things, all metal corrodes, just at different time spans, and degree, and grading bolts is a lot more involved than just hardness, you must also consider shear strength, and torsion strength, among other things.
