View Full Version : Stretched her legs today

Took the MM out for the first time today since November. She started right up and we went to the gas station to get some air in the tyres. Down a pound or two in 3 and 6lbs in the RR.
Decided to take the MM out onto the Interstate so as to blow all the cob webs out. Got a clear run of about a 1/2 mile ahead of me and was ready to cut loose when I spied Johnny law cruising in the opposite direction. So this open stretch was a no go. Cruised a bit further till I got a good mile of clear sailing and let her rip. Started to get the famous drive shaft reverb in the car, so I backed off a bit and just then happened to look in the rear view and hear comes Johnny law behind me 3/4 of a mile back or so and he is getting larger VERY quickly in my rearview mirror. Mind you I'm still cruising over the speed limit so I swear to myself and move into the center lane and ease out of the throttle at the same time trying to figure out where he came from. So I know I'm busted and going to pay out the wazoo and of course the kicker is the increased insurance premiums. So I check the speedo and by the time he's in position to get in behind me I'd slowed to 80mph or so and he is still out in the hammer lane. He blurred past me at well over 100mph no lites on his car just going faster than I've ever seen a cop car going. Well I know I caught a break there so I got off at the next exit deciding not to tempt fate any more today. I cruised home on some twisty roads so I could get a feel for how the suspension works stock as the MM is going in on Fri for lots of suspension mods.
As I near my house Karma rears her ugly head and the air suspension warning lite comes on and the car starts riding like a buckboard. I limped home in the MM spine compacter that is now my car and think Karma what a Bi*ch.
I think the compressor pump stopped working. Need to see if there is a fuse that popped otherwise its going to the local Ford shop for some TLC.

You need to take it easy with those "SB" marauders!
They're fragile. :D

Luckly you were not in the Titan.

If it's your compressor, I would recommend one of the Arnott units for sure.
Mine died, and it was half the price of a Ford part.
Pretty easy to change out too.

Damn that Karma! I had mine out there on I95 last week and stretched it out between Elkton and White Marsh a few times, but it was early in the morning just about time for shift change so most of the bears were hibernating. When I came back the opposite way at 5:00 I took it a lot easier cause they were all out in force.

Man, that is such a bummer, after waiting all that time.
You'll have to do it again properly once it's fixed.

What suspension mods are you planning on doing ? Control arms, watts links and front/rear sway bars.

You need a Dynatec driveshaft from Reinhart or an old MMC shaft from a 99-00 P71

All in good time. Right now my wallet needs to recover. Well the MM seems to be back in business. The dealer put a new pump in it Monday and I had them put a couple of weep holes in the tray so the excess water can drip away.
I'll be taking it in on Friday to a local shop for the suspension upgrades. The owner said I can help him out. I guess I'll get to hold the smart ends.(tape measure humor) First assignment was to bring coffee and donuts for the crew.

Coffee and donuts is a must to get a class A#1 job. Got me a free whole car buff and wax one time. :coolman:

Glad to hear it was a easy solution. Just sucks that they are never cheap!

I don't see you having to give a lot of help except when it comes to the big nut that holds that watts link on top of the diff, then you'll need to pull for all your worth to get that torqued. ;)
Don't forget to post some pics of the final install!

Right after I get my DTR out she needs new sway bar end links. I just whish there were after markets available. I believe they also said something about a couple of the tie rod ends being iffy too.

Sucks about having to empty the wallet though sorry about that!
