The A/C fan started running erratically on my '04 MM and I took it to the dealer thinking it would be no big thing. They checked it out and replaced the Blower Speed Controller (part #FD 8W7Z 19E624/A). It cost me $100 for the deductible on my ESP. Just out of curiosity, I asked the service writer how much it would have been if I didn't have the ESP and he quoted me a price of over $900! Was he pulling my leg? Am I that out of touch with repair costs? I would have thought you could replace almost all of the HVAC system for 900 bucks! Glad I have the ESP, hate to think what might happen after it expires.

Yep... You pay the price or learn to do it yourself.

DIY for blower speed module - about 60 bucks.
I feel better about my fight with the darn thing. Saving over 800 dollars was worth some colorful language.

The writer is full of S---. I can understand if the a/c control head, blower motor controller, blower motor, and pigtail harness could cost as much plus labor. But just the blower motor controller............Nope.

Don't ruin it for me - I was going to convince the wife I saved us over 800 bucks and thus deserved to put half of that in the supercharger fund.

part is around 200 (cdn) and no more than 1.0/labour. looking at a 300 dollar job MAX!

Even by dealer standards that price is WAY out of line...Got 1's estimate sounds more reasonable.

i would have gladly paid 300, clicking my heels all the way to the bank, dealerships have no love for us at all, i try my damnedest to stay out of that place

Glad you got out of it for $100. I wouldn't pay $900

This dealer has always treated me well, so I'm assuming he either had some other repair in mind or he was just goofin' on me. There was no parts and labor breakdown, just the customer total of $.00 and the warranty deductible of $100.00.

$900 sounds about right seeing as how i got quoted $820 to CHANGE THE LIGHTS IN MY AUTOMETER GAUGES. No BS, they told me that the would have to remove my entire dash and all of the hardware in between in order to get to the gauge pods. This was when i realized that when the techs dont know how to do something and there is no predetermined repair time listed, they give you a "worst case scenario" answer. This was the day that i learned how to change my gauge lights.:cool4:
