Well, when i picked up my MM last week, i got an "we Owe" ticket for a detailing, scratch fix, and dent fix, because the car had a few issues. But i noticed the car actually has the sandpaper to paint look to it. The dealer said they could "buff" it out, but after reading some of the stories on here, that doesnt sound so good anymore. What will be the best fix, will a good buff take care of the issues, or does the car actually need to be repainted. Any info would be great, im taking her in on wednesday, i just want to be prepared on what to say/expect from them. My salesman said i will have the car looking like showroom condition. I hope he's right.

I would find a good body & paint shop , have them fix and paint over , when done present the bill to the dealer . I personally have a hard time trusting car dealerships especially the ones that created the problem in the first place . my .02 cents worth...

Depends on your Dealerships paint & body shop,.. I've read a few horror stories here,. but,. there are good dealership-run paint shops out there. Unfortunately, the only way to find them is through trail and error usually.

ultravorx: This is near and dear to my heart. Well at least to my Marauder.
I went back for a clearcoat re-do and now the car looks like sh**.
Dealer does not see anything wrong?
My dealer (ex-dealer) does not have a body shop due to local code.
They shop they sent it to has a great reputation!
Don't know what happened to my paint when re did the clear?
I am in for a long haul on this one.
That is as they said another story, another, another day.
Best thing is not accept delivery till your OK with it.
I know that is not always an option.
Good luck keep us posted......:(

ultravorx, I had paint problems with mine. Some of them had been addressed at the factory by painting over the poor areas again. The bad news is that the repaint was also poor.
So, I took it to our local SVT Ford dealer in Marietta, who I trust. The body shop manager looked it over and said he could fix it.
They repainted the hood and repainted the roof. The trunk lid was buffed out and now I have gelaming paint. There is some minor finishing to be done, but, I am very pleased.
And, the rear bumper cover has some trash in the paint. My dealer is negotiating with Ford to get me a new one!
How's that? It just depends who your dealer is and we in the NW Atlanta area have found a jewel.

Ultra, if you aren't sure of which body shop to trust, I have always found Cadillac body shops to be high quality. I haven't tried them all, of course, so there could be some bad ones out there. But little old ladies are usually pretty picky about having their Caddies all nice and shiny, and Cadillac shops seem to do quality work. Even if you don't get the work done there, they can probably give you a good idea of whether you can buff out a problem or whether more extensive work is necessary.

ultra, is this a New car or used? If New I would not have taken it and asked for another.

Ultravorx, I found some gritty surfaces on my black MM while I was washing it about a week after I took delivery. I used a "clay bar" on it and removed about 90% of the rough feeling grit. Don't know if it was rail dust or something from the factory. Anyway, I'm happy and didn't have to trust it to be redone "right" by someone with a spray-rig that may or may not know what he is doing. Good Luck!

I have a different problem. Bird "guano" !!!
No joke . . . Apparently this huge bird, probably heading south, dropped it's "guano" on my windshield which then splattered spraying droplets. Subsequently, the dew or night moisture/humidity caused this to run and erode my clearcoat! This was really weird with the tree root or spider web type drizzling across forward across the hood.
Anyway, I have use everything except California Gold clay bar or Zaino products (which are not found locally). I have tried all the Gold Mcguiar scratch removal products and eventually went to the rougher turtle wax cleaning compounds.
I'm still working on it but, she is not like she was when delivered.
After a rain or spray wash you can see the tiny compouding swirls and loss of sheen which I am still working on.
Funny thing, almost any other color with clearcoat would not have been noticeable !!!

Hey Kurly,.. Same thing happened to me. right on the hood. I thought Teradactyls were extinct! It couldn't have been on my hood for more than 8 hours,.. I came out in the morning, saw it, started swearing at any bird I could see,.. then I wiped it off. Apperently,.. not soon enough. I have the same "spiderweb". I've resently started using Zaino Z-5,.. it has helped a bit,.. but,.. you have to use a lot of coats Z-5 to make almost go away.

Teradactyls sounds close! Mine must have been one of those California Condors on some kind've "rotten egg steroid" diet. I would like to say that I commiserate with you on our common problem but I feel sorry for our babes. I will not rest until she is pristeen again!
