Okay guys and gals, I absolutely love this car but today around 45 degrees temp I tried to start the car and it just kept stalling on me. Tried to turn it over again it will start then stall on me again. Now this is the second time this have happened to me. Last time it was about a month ago and then went away. I've read few treads about alternator or wires but I would imaging if that is the case the situation would be constant. The only way to keep it running today was to brake and gas the same time to keep up the RPM while at a complete stop. 10 minutes later with the car warmed up it would finally stay running  Any light on this would be much appreciated!!!! :help: :help: :help:

I dunno... Possibly a bad IAC sensor?

Hey Geno, I heard you had this problem before. Santino told me about it. Sorry to hear you are having problems. Check your gas. Are you sure you have been getting good gas? Sludge in the gas will do this. If it were wires you should have more problems in damp weather. Could be a number of things. Hope you have it fixed soon.

Thx Big it might be bad gas, I did put a can of Fuel Injector Cleaner in the tank today hopefully it will go away. LML what is a IAC Sensor?

Idle Air Control. It's the little sensor next to the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) that's mounted to the throttle body on the intake.

DetGeno: My first stop would be the dealer.
Get them to run a diagnostic on the engine and see if any codes appear.
If they do they will know the fix.
It sounds like a adjustment is a simple fix? Yes maybe no?
Could be a number of things that why I would get it checked.
As for adding any thing to the gas, I personally would not.
Just my two cents but, I do not use 'em.

I've heard from MI2QWK4U in the past that by putting in the K&N airfilter, oil could dirty up or get on some sensor. I wonder if this could be a possible cause?

I have heard a couple of others that did get dirt through their filter. As stated before it could be a number of things.

I think LML is on the right track. The Idle Air Control (IAC) solenoid is probably sticking cold and unsticks when it warms up. It is not uncommon. This type of concern will almost never set a code. Just about any dealer tech should know this and replace the IAC solenoid.

Water in the fuel did it to me.....

Can anyone tell me where the IAC is located?

Geno,
The IAC is bolted to the intake near the throttle body on the front side, near the throttle position sensor. It's held on with two bolts, has a solenoid looking end on it with a two wire connector.
Your symptoms sound like this is the culprit. I'll appologize in advance. I had that component in my early days at Ford. The "short soleniod" version on the MM was still only a proposal when I moved to performance development.

Thx Jerry, went to the dealer today and they ran codes and everything else they had to do and confirmed that it must be the Idle Air Control Valve. So other beware of this problem, I don't think I am the only one here! Takes a day to get the part and few hours of labor under warranty. Thx again everyone!

On newer cars a sticking IAC is a good culprit...but when these cars get older carbon and sludge build up in the same IAC and cause idle problems.
As for the KN, unless you do the cone and tube setup you shouldn't have a problem. You might not have a problem with the cold air package either. Now, if you do the cold air and exhaust you run into a lack of backpressure that the computer will measure in the EGR system and that will cause an annoying tic in the idle. It won't stall but just not feel right. My brother-in-law did it with his 97 Cobra. He was running the cold air, Bassani X pipe and flow masters. It went away when he put the stock air box and all back in.
As for bad gas....I don't know about the rest of the country but here in the North East we're getting that oxygenated crap. My MM is sucking the tank like a top fuel rail car. This crap is for the 12 carbuerated cars left on earth, and plays havoc with the FI cars.

Wait, different parts of the country use different gas (even if the octane number is the same)? I live in the northeast also, and noticed that my mileage combination between street and highway is usually around 14-17. Gas up here is oxygenated? Would this be why our cars suck up gas here? Also, I only use 93 Octane in my car.
