Hey Guys
Could any of you guys running taller than OEM rear tires post pics up along with the tires size that are being run both front and back? I am running OEM fronts and rears with the taller ones in the back, but I want to see some pics of taller in rear. Mine are bald and the nice weather is here! Time to buy some new rears to burn off by next spring too!

Thanks guys!

Because of where she is parked and how she is sitting it is not a good picture to take to get a good look at the stance.

She hasn't been started since November and I need to pop the new battery into her that is sitting and waiting.

SO not sure that type of shot right now would be what your looking for.

255/55-18 with no height adjustment. Since they don't make BFG KDW2 tires in my current size I will be upgrading to 265/50-18 when I am ready to replace.

Will be going up a size or two on the fronts when they wear out, most likely.

255/55 looks like my best bet... Don't want to go too big and get that loose feeling in the back on the highway because of the tall side wall...

Well now I have KDW2's on all corners but I don't think they make them in 255/55 anymore, but those tires in the pic were Dunlop sp5000's.

Here are the KDW2's LOVE EM!

I think you would be surprised by the handling of these 285's, they have better numbers than the OEM's, they are a European tire used on a lot of crossover SUV's.

You can always adjust the ride height if that's what your thinking about.

Woah! Even rak-ier!

Yeah, I want to go with something a little higher and wider in front next time. I have to parallel park alot and the stock width doesn't offer much protection from "curb rash".

I put 255-55-18's on all the tires. since these tires are expensive, i "cheaped" out. and put NEXEN tires all around. personally, with the 480 treadwear rating, these things LAST FOREVER. even with sliding the back tires around a little bit.

If anyone is in south florida. check out "Mac Tires" on atlantic and US-1. they by far have the best price. and if you pull in with a Marauder, automatic discount.

another good thing about these tires is that they have a bead of rubber that sticks out by the edge of the rim, to protect from curb strikes. (I don't know what it's called.)

Here's a comparison for ya. The blue has 255/55s on the rear, black has stock. The size diff is so minimal that you wouldn't notice it mixed in with a herd of other MMs at a meet unless someone pointed it out to you.

The aspect ratio is what makes the tire taller (middle number) not the width of the tire (first number).

Switching to a 255 over a 245 won't make the tire any taller, only wider.

Not sure what the discussion is about, everyone is showing pics of wider tires.

Isn't the middle number (in my case 255/55) the percentage of the width of the tire? Making the 255/55's about a half inch taller than the 245/55's? That's What I always thought anyway, I could be wrong, I often am.

Incorrect. the aspect ratio, as the guys above correctly noted, is a percentage of the metric width. if you compare 245/55 to 255/55, the 255/55 will be taller because you are taking 55% of 25.5 millimeters instead of 55% of 24.5 millimeters

OK, I thought 255s were slightly taller.

Not millimeters ^^^^^

255 millimeters (25.5 centimeters)(10.04 inches)
245 milimeters (24.5 centimeters)(9.65 inches)

55% aspect of 10.04 inches is 5.52 inches sidewall height
55% aspect of 9.65 inches is 5.31 inches sidewall height

The 255/55's are 0.21 * 2 = 0.42 inches taller than 245/55 (or just under 1/2 inch)

As Tony (trash) mentioned, the Continental 285's do offer a lip where the rim and tire meet and I can't see how it would be possible to curb the rims. Here are a couple more pictures for illustration. First (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v211/straightonchaser/march%2009%20marauders/IMG_1646.jpg) is a shot of me and Tony together, both with 285's. I too am thinking about going to 255/55 as an alternative. To those who have done it, did you have to correct the speedo? Did you make a driven gear change on the VSS or did you do it in the programing?

Any other tire is better than stock.

They won't mess with the traction control as long as the rear tires are 3% bigger than the front tires.
