Just picked up my wheels from Weldcraft today. My tires are going to come in Tuesday going with the Nitto NT555 295/45R18's. I just need to find another set of wheels to get widened for some Drag Radials

Widened wheels- $470.00
Wider tires- $420.00
traction for the Paxton- Priceless:P

how well do they stand up to the power your car puts down?

I devastate them on the street. Pop half-throttle at 30-40 mph and it kicks the rear end out and lays 2 black strips about 30 ft. I don't even think about WOT. But I had them on when I ran 11.6 at ATL, I didn't even put the drag radials on for that run.

Nice nice, WOT will still be a no go, but it'll be worlds better than not having wide tires. :burnout:

Congrats on the acquisition. I run the same wheels & Nitto's and love em. Gives a Marauder a nice stance, that most detail oriented folks pick up on especially if they are following you. As for additional traction? Not so much. They will help from a confidence perspective tho.....

My Marauder is no where near as powerful as FordNut's, but I have no problems breaking them loose.... Yea not at 40-50mph, but from a light or 5-10? No prob.:burnout:Btw I plugged my #'s into a 0-60 calculator recently, and according to that I was a best of 0-60mph @ 3.97 sec. Can you say happy? hehehehe.

Enjoy em:beer:

A lot of what I'm going for with the new setup is appearance. I had the nt555 265/50R18's and I could lite them up with basic mods. I can't wait to get the Paxton on and start the real fun.

Why don't you run the nitto's at wot? What is wrong with that?

When you're putting down close to 700 rwhp, any rear tires just go up in smoke at WOT. So you're sitting still spinning and watching the competition's taillights.

Which brings me to my original quote..." You spin...I win...so, better make like a gymnast and STICK IT!!!"

Very nice! I will be sending in a pair of my wheels to Weldcraft next week.:D I have gone a different route with the tires though and will be running the Mickey Thompson ET Street II drag radial. 305-45-18s.

Run the same tire and size on the widened rim - a must for any SC MM - look great on the MM. But, I can't get any traction on the street - not even a little - just smoke.

Very nice. My 2 rears are on their way to Detroit as I type this. Saved shipping charges because a friend of mine has family there and is going home for the weekend.

Be very very careful with the drag radials on the street.

:agree:My friend and I got caught in a sudden light rain with a Camaro sporting drag radials. Traction was very unpredictable to say the least

Hi Fordnut,

I've googled "drag radials rain" and read literally hundreds of threads and opinions on running either the MTs or the Nitto 555 in the rain before I made my decision. It was almost a 50/50 split on which one was better. In reality, I probably could've gone with the Nittos. I understand they don't wear as quick and were slightly less expensive, but my car is no longer a true "daily driver" and it doesn't see the highway/rain 95% of the time. And if it does see rain, I'm well aware that ~400rwhp and water doesn't mix well, no matter what tire you have on there. If money permits eventually I'll widen another set and put some Nittos for highway. So I'm accepting full responsibility for my actions. But thanks for looking out for a Marauder brother.

That's what I did, had 2 sets widened. One set has my street tires, the 555 295/45's. The other set has my drag radials, the 555 305/45's. They're old, I got them before the MT's were available in our size. Whenever I replace my DR's I'll also go with the MT's.

Since i am getting my wheel refinished , i wanted to know what is the max wide i could go with but without sticking out. Can i get my wheels more wider than CBT?

and dose anyone know any place near the Chicago land area who could re-chrome and widen my wheels?
p.s
i understand this is completely waste of money i am just doing it for the looks

No. They are widened to the inside not the outside, so if you go wider they will rub the shocks.

They are not chrome, and Weldcraft is the place.

Most of us do it for added traction, not necessarily for looks. But they do look good.

Hey ntd,

Will you be coating your welds? Here's a tip I got from LeoVampire:

Cover the outer part of the rim from the inside to prevent over spray onto it and cover the tire it's self.

Then use Dupli-Colors High Performance Wheel Coating. It is a clear spray coating for the most part but does have a high shine clear to it that almost looks silver after it dry's kind of like a reflective metalic color.

Make's it easier to clean off brake dust and keeps a lot of road ***** from sticking to it as well.

Just a sugestion on what to use and from someone who has tryed it out.

Widened wheels dont improve traction with a blower, I LOL everytime I hear it.

Your right foot is the only hope.

Only do the inner area the tire covers up due to water ending up inside from the air hoses in filling them up and do the inward facing part of the rim.

It does leave a high gloss slightly silver metalic finish you can see once it dry's and our rims look fine facing out without that.
