View Full Version : axle problems
ready to change axle, bearing & seal on my 03 and cant get c clip off. took out pin, pushed axle in as far as it will go, i can spin c clip around on axle but cant get it to come off. tried using magnet, just seems like the axle isnt in far enough to get clip off. between the two side gears ( on end of axles ) is a kind of an "s" shaped spring plate, axle wont push in enough for clip to clear this. any ideas
did you remove the wheel speed sensor? if not it will stop the axle from moving in all the way
yes on the backside of the backing plate there is a sensor with a 8mm bolt you will need to remove. Take a look
is the wheel speed sensor located behind the axle hub by the parking brake assembly?
yes on the backing plate that the parking brake mounts to
on the BACK SIDE of the backing plate. ok I'll check it out thanks

Just loosen the bolt about half way and push the sensor back. Zack saved me on this last year. Good luck.
yep if removed will let you push the axle in a little more

Also for an extra mm or 2 line up the studs so they dont hit your parking brake assembly. You will be able to get the c-clips off by loosing the abs sensor but that extra mm helps especially when you put the axles back in.
Thank for the info- saved me, thats what the problem was. Removed abs sensor and had plenty of room to remove c-clip. Everything back together and fine - dont hear rumble anymore. 127k and first hard part ive replaced.( sorry should have thanked you sooner ) Will be heading back from FLA. weekend of meet in KY. will look for MMs on road.
cool, glad we all could help
