Finally upgrading my ring and pinion to 410s :D I figure while I'm in there, I should put a new Trac-lok in as well since they won't charge any extra labor.
This looks like a smokin deal

And for the Trac-lok, is there any place you can buy upgraded Ford Racing units? I'm looking at them for around 200$ new - will the standard perform well enough or should I look into upgrading?

How many miles are on it?

Yes that's a good deal on Ford Racing 4.10 gears. If you get a new Trac-lok you will need this install kit http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FMS-M-4210-C/ the new Trac-lok (diff) will need to get the carrier bearings pressed on along with the head and tail bearings which they come in that kit. I bought a new trac-lok because the spuder gears in my stock unit were bad. Got the diff from LRS http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/item/M4204F288/Mustang-88-28-Spline-Traction-lok-Differential and you could get the install kit from them also http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/item/YK-F88/1986-08-Mustang-Master-Bearing-Kit-88 to save a few extra bucks.

It's got almost 130k on it now, and I doubt the rear end has been serviced properly. I basically just want a really aggressive trac-lok that will keep both tires spinning when doing powerslides or hard cornering.
What about this?

How about Auburn?

Is Auburn really that much better than say Ford Racing? Even better than the HD rebuilt 8 clutch unit?

Sparta performance a vendor on this site has the gears and install kit at a great price as well.

I went with the upgrade kit that came with the bigger S spring and clutches.

After what all the guys at summitracing and jegs are telling me, I think I'll go for an Auburn unit if I can find a good deal on one, otherwise that upgraded 8 clutch one.

How is that a better deal than going new?
The Cobra 31 spline carrier from Ford Racing (supplier)was 250 brand new , the HD spring and carbon clutches are already set up.
The 28 spline was even less, I'm all about saving money, but I don't see any savings in your method?

Have to remember if he upgrades to 31 spline he has to get new 31-spline axles also. The spider gears are bad in my factory carrier so I just bought a new Ford Racing 28 spline carrier which will hold me for another 100k miles or less. In the meanwhile I'll rebuild mine with new spider gears and cobra clutch pak and keep it as a spare or off load it to another member who might need one.

Yeah I wanted to upgrade, but didn't want to convert to 31 spline. The upgraded 28 spline posi should work really well, my car is going to stay in the 300-400 hp range.

Pretty sure they are separate, at least I hope so in my case cause I dropped the change for them. I can confirm this whenever my stuff arrives.

No the kits don't come with anything to rebuild the carrier with, just new bearings and such.

If you're looking to replace/upgrade the clutches you'll need to buy the kit. Summit racing has them from around 100-120$.
