Just received my alt and need to remove the pulley.
Pulley looks as if it might be threaded, can I just block the rotation and using the splines, unscrew it from the shaft?
Not sure if a puller is the way to go or not.
Thanks in advance.

that spline is how you grip it to remove it. a puller is not want you want you want to spin that spline like a nut.

i just lent my tool out but if you still need it when i get it back let me know.

Thank you for confirming my suspicions.
It looks like right hand thread, can anyone confirm this?
I can make a tool to remove it, thanks Dave for your input.

You will never re-use the pulley again and the air chisel is used to walk the pulley counterclockwise...not mangle it.

By not destroying the pulley when I removed it, I was able to sell it later to someone who needed one.

I was planning on re-using the pulley....
Is there a reason why I can't/shouldn't?

Not unless you're reversing the alternator, they're jumping to conclusions and making the assumption that everybody who removes an alternator pulley is doing it for an Eaton conversion. Now if that's your plan then you have to go with a non-clutched pulley.

To answer your original question, use the tool with an air impact wrench and it will take the pulley right off.

^^^ Thank you FordNut for your responses.
I am not flipping this around for any kind of swap, just swapping voltage regs and polishing the case. Any links to this tool? Is it something they might have for sale at the stealership? Prob is I don't really have time to wait for one to ship, would like to just go buy one somewhere...
Thanks for anyone who might have some info for me....
