Quick question:

The one-way clutch on the MM alternator pulley - that is purely mechanical, right? It doesn't have anything to do with the electrical system of the car, correct?
IOW- it doesn't only run the alt when the EEC tells it to, correct?
Buddy of mine works at a Mopar dealership, very bright kid. We were just talking about alternators and he was talking about how some of the new stuff does exactly that: varies the speed of the alternator according to the electrical demands of the vehicle, as determined by the EEC.
I told him that I didn't think that was the case with the Fords, but when I really thought about it, I wasn't 100% sure...lol.
So I figured I'd ask this question here since you guys are the experts.
Thanks for looking....

The clutch is only for when you take your foot off the pedal from say WOT. The EEC controls turning off the atl. at WOT

Thank you.
My concern is that my EEC does not have the capability to turn off the alt, will that create any problems? I'm guessing no, just wanted to check with the experts and see what you guys had to say, if anything.
Thanks again for your response.

And it turns off the alternator by switching off the field coils, not through a clutch.

I'm not sure I get the question? Are you saying that you are concerned that if the alt is left on there would be an issue? If that is the question I'd answer that as a no.

What is your pcm code massacre? Ill tell you if the pcm has control of it or not.

I already know the PCM doesn't have control of it, but if you're interested it's C3N3.

Awesome, this is the info I'm looking for. This alt is going to be trickier than I thought. Good thing it's one of the last things I have to do.

OK, it sounds like a MM engine swap into an earlier car which does not have PCM control of the alternator. In that case, use an alternator from a '96-'98 Cobra. It has the proper dimensions for a Marauder engine, but uses the older style regulator which does not use PCM control of the regulator/alternator.

I'm not sure if you have tried but my '96-'98 Cobra alt. was about a 1/4 inch too big. Interfered with the lower manifold.
I can swap in an older regulator/wiring no prob.
Thanks for your interest.

Strange... I tried one from AutoZone on my car once, it physically fit perfectly but the regulator didn't work with the Marauder's PCM controlled system.

No Dave, it's a 4.6 now, 5.4 to come later.
This has been done tons of times on the mustangs, I'm sure it won't be too much of a problem.
Thanks guys.
