View Full Version : Damn my compass broke!

How do I get it back on? It's been out for a few years, but I'd like to have it back. I used to be able to hit/tap it and it would work for about five seconds and die out.

Is there a fuse for this thing? Also the power mirrors don't work and I really don't care about those since I don't adjust them. Could this be related?

Check on e-bay or the local salvage yard for a CV or GM console, pull the compass and swap out. You can't buy just a compass from Ford, they sell the console as an assembled unit, and it ain't cheap.

I didn't think I had to replace the whole thing. I thought it would be a fuse or something. I'm sure I can get one of these at a junkyard near me. There is one that has good parts like this already pulled.

As many that seem to be getting destroyed (unfortunately) lately, maybe someone here has one for cheap that you can buy.

He can buy mine. But the Marauder wrapped around comes with it, and it will not be cheap. THAT'S what I mean.

Noticed there's a difference between the '03 compass which displays only N, NE, E, SE, S, SW & NW and the '04 compass which displays NORTH, NORTHEAST, etc.

No need to replace the whole console. The compass is a small electronic board mounted within its own plastic case that is itself mounted to the console.
I just did this myself, as my compass broke too. I ended up taking a couple compasses out of a 98 mountaineer and a 97 explorer. They fit the MM console just the same, but the ones I picked up also display the outside temperature. Since the MM doesn't have provisions for outside temperature display in the console, all I see is "-40ºF" in the temp display (it alternates between "-40ºF" and "ICE" for the first 60 seconds or so after starting up). The compass works fine, though - after resetting the zone and calibration.

I suppose a compass out of one of the more recent lincolns is more like the MM compass, without the temperature display.
