While driving home from work tonight I suddenly smelled what seemed like chlorine in the car. Kind of like I was standing next to a swimming pool. About 5 seconds later I heard a loud click in the dash and the automatic climate control shut off. None of the other settings work and the fan doesn't either. Can get some air while moving and the vent button is pushed but that's it. I thought fuse. Looked in the owner's manual and everything connected with the ETAC or blower motor on the same fuse is working. Any thoughts ?

See if maybe the smell came through from there? Maybe a heater core leak or a poped AC hose?

I am guessing but might as well take a look at everything and make sure the rest of the system is in tack at least then go from there.

Sounds interesting. Keep us posted on this.

The BCM is located in the duct work for the a/c. It may have failed releasing the smell of "victory" into your vents. If your fuses are good and the EATC is active but the blower is bad then:

1. Remove the BCM from behind the passenger head.. Clean the board of the protective coating over the terminals.

2. Resolder the connections to the large terminals beefing the connections up the best you can, they are deficient and cause overheating and the terminals literally unsolder themselves from the board.
3. Reclear the circuit board and reinstall after testing it.

Got the problem fixed this afternoon. I watched my mechanic (who can fix anything) do a lot of diagnostics on the fuses both under the dash and in the black box under the hood, wiring, the EATC and more and concluded it was a part known as the "Blower Speed Controller." Got one from a local Ford dealer while I waited. Part number was 8W7Z-19E624-A. I asked about the chlorine smell and he advised the part burned out and he theorizes since the coolant runs through the heater control valve and near where the part is there is a chance this is what I smelled but he can't say for sure. He was a little more technical than that but this is the best I could recall what he said to me.

I can almost gaurentee that it was the board melting of the blower control module.

I replace mine last summer.

If you fixed yours, you could have saved some dough. Its more often than not, repairable.

I still got the old one if I get board and wana try to tear it apart.

A buddy of mine has an 04 DTR with a similar problem, it just quit on him. Everyone tells him that he has to replace the whole EATC head unit and only the dealer has them $500, thankfully he's got heated seats to hold him over
