My '03 is having problems going into reverse mostly when shifting from drive to reverse. I haven't checked the fluid yet. I have a new cooler and filter to put in, but I haven't done it yet. I assume that I should check it with the trans in neutral? Anybody have any tips, thanks in advance.

Many had shifter alignment issues from the factory, try going from drive to just slightly past reverse and see if that does it. I'm a little embarassed to admit, although this being an easy adjustment, I still haven't bothered in the last 5 1/2 years of ownership.
Check your fluid while warmed up in park.

This is an easy fix for a common problem. You just loosen the linkage bolt under the car by the transmission and retighten it. It almost self-aligns. Problem gone. Do a search for more details.

I had my shift linkage bolts back out and Park was reverse, 2nd was Drive. Sounds like a easy fix for you.

Mine was off slightly after my trans swap. I unbolted the shifter linkage, and pushed it all the way forward towards the engine to get it in first gear. Then go inside car and put it into 1st gear. Go under and bolt it back together. It should be right on.
