Thats the one you need.

PM Babbage, He just did this upgrade and got the specs from Darrin. The good thing is the one's you looking at are the right style, with the plate design.

I think babbage got the one smaller then the one darrin said to get. He told me to get the "medium" one... lol

Yep thats the medium one 12plates - I got the one with 8 plates. I really don't think I'll need the 12 plate in NY, Matt is in Texas (hotter) with the Vortec working his trans good.

I'll be fine. I'm mounting it lower in the car where it will get fresh air too.

Haven't mounted it yet. I *did* get all my brand new KDWS tires roadforce mounted, installed a Reinhart 180 Tstat + water wetter. Custom proguard installed -- Waiting for my custom made valve body kit from Darren (BC Automotive) :banana2:

Matt: get the 180 thermal bypass - only if the trans fluid gets to 180 does it get to pass thru the extra cooler.

Is this needed if 35* and below is rarely seen here? Also, 180* seems a little high for it to kick over to the other cooler

I thought about doing this instead. Duel pass cooler with a 10" fan

19152

19153

$200.00 and it turns on once the fluid temp hit's 180

#55X. Automatic transmission cooler with integral fan. Ideal for racers that require cooling of transmission fluid when the vehicle is not in motion. This is a 16 pass double row cooler with a 650 CFM 10 inch Tornado Electric Fan, 25,000 GVW. AN fittings are compatible with existing rules and build practices. 10 3/4" x 15 5/8" x 4". Cost $189.00

#55T. Thermostat for the above cooler. Automatic Controller for Remote Cooler, 6AN Ports, Can Attach Directly to Cooler Core or Place Inline, Activates Fan at 180 Degrees. Cost $32.00

The tru-cool that im looking at cools 37,000 BTU's.... thats a TON and no fan needed

Yes, I think you should get it, otherwise the transfluid might get too cold. 175F is ideal, too cold and it can be less than optimum. Do you have a trans temp gauge?

Looks good to me - where this really shines is at the drags. Someone here said they had one and it only turned on (fan) after hotlapping 3x and then waiting in line a long time. For a heavy drag car in the south it's ideal.

My Tru Cool Mini max has a heat rating of 22,000 BTU with no fan. Plus I already have an aluminum finned PML deep trans pan. +2QT

Anything under 220 degrees is OK if you flush every 50K miles and quite frankly I never saw any temps over 210 degrees in mine during the hottest Summer days!!:shake:

Seems to me the OEM cooler is quite adequate for the job??

I agree with this statement.

I have coolers on all my MM's with Stall converters and most of the time they ran TOO COOL.

We peak summer temps real high down here, and thats when most of the racing happens. And some times in my bracket back to back runs is a must.

Under WOT a quarter mile will probably create 5% slip or 15 HP of heat for 15 seconds 180,000 btu/4= 45,000 btu how many minutes do you want to wait until it cools down ................15,000 = 3 minutes
The 176F normal ATF would increase by 45F to 221F in the quarter mile run.

The above uses water and we all know ATF is much less efficient [50%] at heating up and cooling than water so at worst it might be double.
The problem is if the ATF id half as efficient as water then the heat stays in the metal so the TC and clutches might go up 90F while ATF goes up 45F and the metal would take longer to cool.

Thats why I got the 180 bypass - only if fluid is 180 does it get to go thru the new cooler (mini max)

I have a 9.5 inch converter too - I don't even know what my temps are - I'm sending my SGII back so I can get TT on it.

Zack - what is TOO COOL in degrees F?
