Hey, anyone know where I can by some of those tail light covers (the black tinted looking ones) for a Marquis? Including blacking out that reflective crap that they put on the Marquis between the tail lights and the reverse lights? Thanks a bunch!

why not buy a crown vic piece and forget about painting it
--Russ
PS. the tail lights most people do are painted, there are no covers.

I was thinking more along the lines of this, but anyway, where can I buy some Crown Vic ones? Paint like home depot paint? Hmm...

woaface : It was done using a product called nightshades.
It is found at most speed shops.....
Do a search for taillight.

I really goofed up on this reply---these masks were manufactured locally of hi-impact plated plastic--the maker wants to know how much interest is out there--is willing to make masks for the '03 and '04 Marauder in chrome or Marauder colors-if enough interest , will get a price and source--am working thru my dealer and have not had direct contact with manufacturer. They are clip[-ons and easy to install--let me know what you think through this thread. Maury

woaface, To get that look you'd have to change to CV/Marauder style tail lights i think. Aren't your Grand Marquis ones smooth?
edited to add, you could also change your Grand Marquis trunk panel to the CV/Marauder style.

Someone can make masks? I want one (actually, two). In black, of course.

Ummm, that's MY car in the pic. Those are NOT tail light covers :puke:
Search 'nite shades', I draw the line somewhere...and plastic clip ons are really close!
No offense NBC....as everything I see from you is very classy...please don't put clip ons on your MM. That is as long as you would'nt put them on your glasses!:P

The painting is not difficult.
Heck, *I* did it and it turned out beautifully. All you have to do is go slow with it. This was my first attempt at any type of custom work.
Cost me $10 - the price of the can of Nite Shades. And about 3 hours. Two were spent masking, then 3 minutes every two hours to spray on a thin coat of the stuff.
Can clip-ons be stolen? I really don't know, but I know my paint can't be! (well, they would have to either spend lots of time with a solvent or take the whole light assembly).

Actually Ef, I figured that out a while ago, and I do thank you for helping in the process, although indirectly to my own experience.
Not to pick nits or nuthin' but . . .
The s55 has opaque gloss black on them IIRC. The niteshades are more of a charcoal gray and transparent. I seriously thought of blacking them out totally like the s55, because they would still be street legal since it really wouldn't do anything to the reflectors or lights that are used.
BUT then I figured the transparent ones looked just as good, allowed the red to show through somewhat in bright sunlight, and were easier to explain to a LEO if I ever were to be questioned about it.
I also didn't touch the reverse lights. They don't have any reflectors in them save that small corner at the top and are dark unless illuminated at night. During the day I kinda like the contrast they give in their original color (didn't the s55 have the lines on the reverse lamps also?)
As far as credit goes, I gave Cruztaker that because he was the one that helped me with it, that's all. Didn't mean to slight you in any way.
I suppose were one to use gloss black paint and then a clearcoat it would be even cheaper than a can of niteshades, as well as easier to find.
Thanks,

Didn't mean to slight you in any way. bud not slighted in any way.I also didnt go too dark as to see how it would go over with the local law enforcement.I do agree that they could go a few shades darker.and it looked like too much of a pain to take the reverse lights out,,but i do like that effect also.thanx

I did 5 coats on mine and the can was running a bit low so I didn't do more. Didn't want "spit" marks should it run out after I had 5 coats on already. I wasted some spray in an attempt to get really thin coats on - especially the first coat - because I heard it could run. But I can't say I'm in any way displeased with the results of doing so.
I only bought one can and had to get that thru the internet. Like I said, IA is a barren wasteland for some things. :) I would like to see someone's that has a few more coats on them with the niteshades if anyone has them done that way.
Thanks,
-A

Effster: Quit being so modest! YOU were the first to post...I was just the one who pushed it so hard on the site...
