Talking to a kat that has a SC Marauder in Jersy has me pondering on getting a CAM upgrade over 4.10's. He say my stock isn't putting out enough right now for 4.10 and if I start with the CAM upgrade i'll get 30-50 more hp to feel easily, around the same cost for the product, fewer days on the labor and cheaper labor cost than the 4.10's. Told me to research Crane Camshafts. So to the wise brotherhood of MMN.....drop some knowledge on me.

My tuner installed cams on a Mach1 and it only gained 10RWHP but sounded really nice.
BTW, 4.10s can be installed within 2 hours for around $500 with parts, Cams are at least 8 hours to install and that's if someone has done them many times before and will run you several thousands of dollars. You can be bone stock, install 4.10s and still feel a improvement.
Cams aren't worh the money for the minimal gain you'll get.
Theres a reason why the majority here don't change em'
30 - 50 more HP!!! I dont know about that. I'll let the experts chime in.

what cams that give 50hp can you get for the cost of gears?, and who is going to install them for the same price as a gear install?

For the same price of cams installed you can do a tune, intake, and gears probably and more.

Don't know which kat you've been talking to about the 4:10s, but I call :bs:
^^^^^^ What Blackened300a said ^^^^^
4:10s and a tune are the two best mods you can do to a bone stock MM, and they'll cost you a whole lot less than cams.
Bro just get yourself a intake, gears, and tune.
Trust me you will feel a HUGE difference over stock!
Sounds like someone is feeding you a load of :bs:

First your not gonna get 50hp from cam's that are affordable. If your sold on the cam idea go for the 96~98 Cobra cams. Installing them won't be cheap (unless you can do them yourself). To save some cash you should consider CAI, Xcal Tune, and a midpipe swap to start.
You have to but 4 Cams. No way you can do this for less than the price of the gears. Do the gears and save money for the tune. I have replaced the cams on my 4 valve motor and can tell you its not what you are looking for unless you have a SC to go with them. Which I do.
This guy told Black Kannin that it takes 3-5 days to install 4:10 gears! :shake: :stupid:
WTF is this dude smoking!!! :rasta:

I have gears, an underdrive pulley, mufflers, CAI and programmer and it's a completely different car now. Stay out of the motor unless you're gonna pull huge numbers and need to beef up the internals.

I'd love to have the sound of some VOODOO cams! But at around $3000.00 installed, pass.

10/4 . The only down side is that when you wake your Marauder up with these great initial mods you WILL want the biggy....A BLOWER... then brakes and handling to control it all and on and on. It is fun and what makes Marauders special. To much is not enough. Truth be known and this may piss off a bunch of stock Marauder owners...a stock Marauder is nothing more than a Grand Monkey with bad ride manners, pretend "fast" and funny wheels ... That is the reason for your interest, your question, why there is so much modification information here and so many heavily modified Marauders in the collective. Go for the gusto. You will love it. I'm not sure what all this has to do with anything. . . that's not even our motor
If the tale is that's a Marauder motor, someone is spinning a yarn. You can't get 618CID (I assume you meant CID since 618cc would be .6L) out of our block.

Those 3 items Im having a issue with. I don't recall rocker arms on a DOHC engine. Edlebrock don't make any form of intake manifold for this engine and Eibach makes springs for this car and nothing else.
I meet guys like this at car shows that tell me what they have and then I just shake my head and nod because I know better.

I was thinking of cams for that as Justbob put "Voodoo" sound. This would be a distant mod as its expensive but for me its for show not necessarily go. If you want to go fast go with a supercharger, but if it's for show there's not much that sounds better than a cammed engine idling at a lite. I would do it in conjunction with an exhaust mod. Remember it's better to look good than to feel good.:)

Well, I was planning on doing cams when I got a new motor, but I figured since I was going to get a new motor purpose built from the ground up, I might as well put the cams in too but it isn't something I would just do on a MM. 5.0 or in my old GTP maybe, but not in the MM. Way I look at it, the Cobras/Terminators and Mach 1s don't really add cams until they go crazy and have nothing left to do so that's gotta say something.

I was rofl'ing when I read that mod list, has everything to do about nothing to do with our engine.
I think car mods, hp and 1/4 times are the most common BS'ing that goes around unless something backs up the claims.
So to answer your question Black Kannin: tune, intake (k&n or JLT, I bias to JLT), 180 degree t-stat, one step colder spark plugs, GMS coil-on plug connectors, 3000 stall torque converter and 4.10 gears with not even touching the exhaust should give you a low 14 car all day long for around $2500 give or take and I was including using the JLT and common labor charges. Open the exhaust up some and venture into the 13 sec range.

I'm guessing Pops spent well over $5,000 to get his car (Grand Marquis) in the low 13's.
As for the MM guys that are running there, gears, tune, control arms, exhaust system, prolly over $3,000 as well.

Actually, about 2 years ago, I bought a closeout set of the Brembo 13" 4-piston full brake kit (calipers, rotors, and even flex lines) for my Mustang for $500 shipped. I've been kicking myself that I didn't drop the money and buy 2 sets and sell the other one for a bit of profit.

I can tell you the very first thing I would do would be the PI head swap, high flow intake, custom tune and some 3.73 gears. All of that would really wake the car up.
