In anticipation of getting a Marauder, I was wondering what are some popular mods that are being done? I'm thinking of MAYBE just some lower gears and a stall converter. This will be a daily driver that I'll use for work. I'm not too concerned with balls to da wall power. That will be left up to my s/c Cobra. I need comfort and reliability (and just a little umph)
gears- what ratio is popular, concerned with stoplight to stoplight grunt! 4:10s, 4:30s, 4:56s?!
stall converter- what stall speed seems to work best? 2700, 3000, 3500? Any popular company/brand?
Patience with the "newbie" here if this is old news!!Thanks.

Very hard to answer. It depends on how much you have to spend and what your looking for out of your investment.
The best thing to do is a search and read all the threads related to various mods.

WARRIOR:
Most people here have done the 4.10 gears, because that's a very good compromise between power and highway mileage...if you're just concerned about stoplight drags, then the 4.30s may be a little better...a few here have them...
For the TC, the Precision Industries "Stallion" is the popular choice...it stalls at about 2800 or 3000 (I forget which; I don't have one)...
Bear in mind that if you get the lower gears, you need to correct the speedo, and that your shift schedule will be messed up. The most popular correction for these issues is a chip from either Dennis @ www.reinhartautomotive.com or Wes @ www.innovativeinterceptors.com ...or, you can purchase the new Superchips Custom Tuning hand-held tuner and do your own re-programming. Dennis can help you with this...you'll also most likely need a new driveshaft, as the stock one isn't up to the demands of the 4.30s...you could maybe get away without it with the 4.10s...
Other popular mods are Steeda underdrive pulleys...upgraded rear sway bar...headers...high-flow cats...cross-drilled rotors...Eibach front springs (for lowering)...the list goes on...

Warrior What RF said excellent info, if you're going to fight the wars in your Cobra and the MM. is going to do highway cruising you might want to consider going no higher than the 4.10's. The stock gears cruise at 100 mph smooth as ice. If the low end grunt takes priority, I beilieve BillyG has 4.56's check with him. Best o' Luck.

RF,
Thanks man! That is exactly what I was looking for. I don't want to get too deep in the mods with the MM. I want driveability to be stock or close to it. Thanks again for you time /info.:bows:

You could always install high speed muffler bearings or the Turbo Injection Hyperbolic Booster System.

One nice thing about this car is that it responds to mods in a very civilised fashion...it stays just as driveable as stock, but keeps getting faster. I've had the honor and pleasure of driving SergntMac's Kenny Brown Marauder S (supercharged) with 438 RWHP that runs high 12s, and until you really mash the loud pedal, you'd hardly know it wasn't stock...and martyo has just about every mod developed so far, short of the blower, and his car runs like silk...kinda LOUD silk, but smooth nonetheless... :D

Thats good to know. I PLAN on keeping it mostly stock, MAYBE just gears and a stall converter. The 97 Cobra is my 500+ rwhp toy!:D

As I like to say, as smooth as Polished Steel.

hey I want some of those muffler bearings , but they outlawed them in Alaska, they rust out really fast here and fall out at cross walks and people slip and fall as a result of bad bearings .
does anyone know how much anti-freeze i should put in my 1961 VW cant seem to find any info on it .
goood luck on your MM mods , my wife said i had to wait till the car is paid for and the warranty is up

Mr. Scream,
having worked for VW in 61 I can give you some insight on the factory approved antifreeze. The coolant consisted of a gas that
was mostly oxygen and nitrogen, had a very, very low freezing point (even for Alaska) and was readily available on the aftermarket. If you used the factory approved coolant then no antifreeze was required. For further information I am sure you can search Google under "atmosphere Earth."
I know, I know. Humor from a smart Azz, but there you go.

Man, I'd just die without that factory approved coolant!!:shake:
