View Full Version : Centrifical SC cars, Maint tip
I have been having my drive belt slip one rib off the S/C pully on my Novi/Vortech MM. Removing, inspecting and reinstalling the S/C and related components did not fix the problem.
Folks here and in the Ford Maintence shop steered me to the tensioner.
So I replaced it today ($78 OEM). I'll find out if this fixes it after a few days of driving
However, while reassembing the car I noticed that one coolant hose that connects to the t-stat was resting of the P/S pully. A quick check and I find that it's almost worn through. A tie strap fixed that. I'll get a new hose before L'ville.
Since it's so dark down there I never noticed it before. Some car installations may have longer hoses and that "pushes" the t-stat/hose assembly back against the P/S pully. Something to look for when cleaning the engine bay.
Regards,
After doing my own test fitments on my own cars, I offered the part #'s for the correct belts and hoses so that this kind of stuff would never happen.
It went unheard.

Good tip, I cut my hose shorter.

Au Contraire, Mon Ami. I heard you. You gave me the P/N for the shorter belt on 9 May 09.
The hoses did not seem a problem at the time.

To clarify, I wasnt referring to you .;)
Speaking of Maintenance Tips, I found out something, by mistake, about the brake system on the MM.
While piddling around the area below the washer tank, reference the silver box like device with all the hardlines going in and out.
I inadvertently pulled on the tan colored handle on the front side of said assembley and it reset into another detent. Didn't think it was nothing more than a little handle.
When I finished and started the car the "brake" fault light illuminated. Now what did I do?
Thinking over my actions I recalled the little handle so I went back and push it back in. Voila, no more brake fault lite. I'm thinking it must be a disabling control for a secondary or second half of our brake system. Zack???????????

Its a piece to click the connector in place and keep it locked in. All you did was disconnect it.
Well, after several days of driving the drive belt is still centered on the S/C. Hope it continues this way.
