has anyone modded their engine to incorporate the piston oil squirter's?
I'd like to... I already did the ceramic piston top & special piston skirts...

I know the new 5.0L engine has them & they supposedly work wonders...
Piston-cooling jets also were incorporated for performance-minded customers and for faster oil warm-up on cold start.
Here are two articles on the new engine...
I'd love to run a modded verison on that in the marauder too... Drowl...:drool:http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/images/smilies/drool.gif

I did it, but didn't add the squirters. I had my rods rifle-drilled so oil from the crank oiling holes for the rod bearings go through a hole in the rod bearings, up the hole in the rod, oil the wrist pin, and squirt out the top of the rod onto the bottom of the piston.

Was there any measurable performance gain, or is it a piece of mind/insurance mod?

Ya I've seen those setups but they don't really "squirt" the bottom of the pistons do they?

Yes. With mine it's a periodic squirt instead of continuous because my bearing inserts are only grooved halfway around. If they are fully grooved it squirts continuously. I was afraid to try that, concerned it would bleed off too much oil pressure.

Who knows. When you do a thousand things during a buildup nobody knows what difference an individual part of the build makes.

The easiest way to make some HP is to install GT Supercar cam lifters.
It sprays the oil directly onto the follower/valve and has proved to add HP in Modular engines.

..its a not-so-well known Performance secret.

That's some good info right there! Thank You Sir. ;)

I wonder if anyone has put true piston oil squirter's on their dohc 4.6L yet?
The kind on the new 5.0L

According to an article I read about the engine.. That makes a big difference in piston temp & preventing detonation...

I def understand that, I just figured you might have researched and found something documented about that one mod before you decided to go with it.

I just read the reasoning behind it and found that some of the high end sports cars and F1 engines used the technique to reduce piston temperatures and friction losses. Made sense, and since I was spending $1200 on rods anyway what's another couple hundred. Of course that was back when I had a job. A good job.
