I've heard various numbers, but generally 400-420 at the wheels is considered safe. 450 is about max, although Dave P (MI2QWK4U) was running about 500 on a stock motor for quite a while. I haven't heard if he still has it.

The most accepted number for rwhp on a stock engine is ~450 without ventilating the block. Our rods and pistons are the weak points. Another thing to consider is at that power level, your transmission will probably be the next thing to go. There are several owners that are beyond that number, the highest I know of is MI2QWK4U @ 512 rwhp, Spectragod has 472, and mpearce is @ ~482. These guys are the exception, not the rule though and are probably running on borrowed time, although it is a testament of how durable our engines can be, and good tuning. YMMV.

Add ~20% to that to account for driveline loss. So 475x1.2=~570 crank.

So I should get new pistons and rods, and possibly a beefy tranny, I dont want to have 500 rwhp I was looking at 430 to 450, that beats most if not all cars [

Not that our OEM rods and pistons are bulletproof...far from it, but....It's all in the tune.
No detonation = No broken parts.

Like many things in life it depends. If your car is a "garage queen" that gets 2,500 miles per year and 1 pass per year down the 1,320' then yeah 512rwhp on race gas will work.
W/ 450RWHP heres what happened - I put my S/c on at ~40K w/ ~95 1,320' passes and went another ~85 passes and at 95K due to a bad fuel pump I hurt the motor.
There is a member on here that has over 160K of which most is an S/C.

You won't beat all that much with that hp and a 4600lbs curb weight. Stock late model Mustang GTs can do what a Trilogy MM can do. You'll be able to surprise alot of folks and keep up with them, but beating them is another story. A 13.0 or 12.9 second 1/4 mile isn't really all that extraordinary anymore for newer cars.
I've gone up against AMGs/M class/Lambos/high $$$ turbo ricers/ etc. If you live in a big $$ city like here, you'll come across something that will beat you everyday. If you live in Lower Hickville, you'll own the road.
Everything is relative.

You're going to need a 3.0 pulley to get these HP numbers - don't let anyone tell you different unless you push the AF to the limit which is risky.

Guess I should have quantified my statement by saying "In daily driven form..."
My best time was 12.8, Dave's was 12.7, both at Mission Raceway which is about 70 feet above sea level. Our 60' is either 2.0 or 1.9 since we use stock BFGs and last year was our first racing season.
If you guys do all the track-only tricks like race gas, full slicks, nearly empty gas tank, no spare, headlight removal blah blah blah then sure, your time will be better.
I run the car exactly as daily driven, currently tuned to 400RWHP. And I fill the gas tank to the top right outside the track so I always have a solid baseline from which to compare any mods done. Could I have a 12.2 run by doing all the tricks? Sure. Is it a fair representation of the car? Not in my opinion. At our Friday Night Street Legals, I don't compare my times to guys running slicks + tricks.
Vancouver is the most expensive place in Canada to live, and I can easily count at least half a dozen 100k+ cars on my drive into or out of town.
"Vancouver is now only four percentage points cheaper than New York and more expensive than any other city in North America. Montreal has the same cost of living as Chicago (=36th), the second costliest in the US."
And that was written when our dollar was at 88 cents per USD, not the 99 cents it is today.
When I "play" with all the exotics, I think about their specs and stats and compare it to my own realistic ones before engaging.
Last week I ran with a Z06, and 911 S4, and Audi RS6 and a 2010 Shelby GT500. I didn't even bother with the new Nissan GT-R. :( It's still the rainy season out here, so few of the true exotics are out just yet. When you say "be able to run with most sports cars out there", these ones are the bottom rung as far as I'm concerned. If you meant modified 69 Camaros, late model RX-8s and newer SRT Chryslers, you'll be fine.
I guess everybody's frame of reference is different.

Most go to the track to win.
Was your 12.2 done at your current Reinhart Vortec "T" Trim 541.57 RWHP/476.64 RWTQ or I'm guessing it was at lower levels?
As far as "all the tricks" go, I'd also consider a race gas tune as a trick. My 400rwhp is super rich/super safe with pump gas. Even adding the Sniper tune from Dave's car, +25rwhp would be a modest gain in my car, let alone a 100 octane tune for even more hp.
I mean, really...any Marauder with my mods and a good tune should hit 450rwhp with ease, especially with a race gas tune.
"Most go to the track to win." What's your point? Some athletes use steroids to win. Barry Bonds, Mark MaGuire and Jose Canseco are the last atheletes who would ever impress me, no matter what records they may hold.
And that's my point. I don't compete in class-based drag racing, I compete in heads-up, run-whatcha-brung right off the street kinda stuff.
That's why it's called "Street Legals". Sure, I've seen exotics with stock rubber worth more than my Trilogy, but that's normal for them on the street. But I've seen very few Marauders with DOT slicks running around on a daily basis as daily drivers.
When someone says "I want to beat most sports cars out there", that to me implies non-classed style racing, especially since most decent sports cars are in the Import class and we're in Domestic.
Lastly, how do ANY of you have a 4200lbs Marauder??? I've weighed mine at the track and also at 2 different commercial scales (Port Mann, Horeshoe Bay). The day I bought it, it weighed 4610, just as it rolled off the delivery truck with a full tank of fuel. With some aluminum parts fabbing I shaved off about 20, with more parts on the way. Dave and Derek's MM's were both over 4500lbs as well.:confused:

I compete in the Street Legal class and I have always run Street Legal, no line lock, no stager, no timer, etc.
I beleive steroid use is illegal/prohbited, if anyone at the track is engaged in illegal/prohibited activity I suggest you report them.
Most people will lower the air pressure in their rear tires, let their car cool off, perform a burn out, line up on the start line, preload their suspension, either shift manual or auto and keep it WOT down the entite 1,320'. These tricks will help you win.
I ran the 12.2 on race gas for safety using a street tune, so I actually developed less power.

Big win racing stats mean diddly-squat without context in Street Legal. By it's very definition, you could be racing any domestic on the road. Don't know about your track, but ours has plenty of beat-up 5Ls, sixties muscle cars and lowered pickuptrucks on Street Legal nights. Looking back on my own stats, I won 5 out of 9 races before my Trilogy, and won 8 out of 9 races after the install. Big whoop, unless your track somehow lines cars up according to their e.ts...which then isn't really Street Legal rules anymore, is it?:D
And somehow, all you guys have cars that weigh 300lbs less than the 4 MMs that go to the track here. You guys will beat me at the strip any and every time, no question. That was never my point. My point was that you run different at the strip then on the street, and set yourself up with a "track-only" time, since you'll never manage it anywhere else.
Yup, that's my dream scenario. Side by side with a Aston Martin DB9 at a freeway on-ramp light. I smile slyly as I turn off my car to let it cool down, while I contemplate if I should get out to lower the tire pressure on the rears or simply put on the slicks on mismatched rims I have in the trunk, remove my r/f headlight, do a burnout, and purge the tank of regular fuel to be replace with my race fuel, strictly for safety of course.
I'll say it again, context is everything.

I don't race on the street, something I gave up when I was no longer a teenager. Frankly people who do are idiots.
In most cases when 2 cars line up at the track each has done his best to beat the other guy and the one who wins can claim true victory.
I have raced at Gainsville, FL, Commerce, GA, Baton Rouge, LA, Belle Rose, LA and Gulfport, MS.
I have raced against National Champs. Most of the cars that beat me arrived on a trailer. I suggest you check on the rules for Street Legal.
I am glad to know you have gone from "You won't beat all that much.." to "...won 8 out of 9 races..." with a best of 12.8.
I am sure you can easliy get your car under 12.5. Just set it as a goal and report back when you make it.:)
