At 111,000 miles it was time to change my front pads. I cleaned & lubed the pad mounts & slides. Installed Hawk HPS pads. Bled the entire system with new fluid. Went out to bed the pads. They grip like big brakes. The backs of the pads have no soft isolalors. My concern under light braking they squeal. What is the fix ?

Did you have the rotors scuffed/cleaned/turned/whatever people like to call it?

PM 03mmmonroe, he just changed my pads and rotors and mentioned the technique he uses to prevent squeeking when brakes are applied.

The old rotots were smooth not gouged. All I did was scuff with 150 grit then 200. Then spray cleaned rotors with brake cleaner.

Well there goes my contribution then, lol. Sometimes glazed rotors+new smooth pads=squeeky squeeks.

Here is a compound you can add to the back of brake pads.

Also make sure you clean and lube the caliper slides and mounting pins.

Bingo! After seeing this, I recalled that's what Russ did on mine.

If it is a totally flat pad with no camphor edge on the ends it can cause an initial squeal.

Did you do a run out check on the rotors surface both inside and out?

Ceramic or semi metalic?

I had Hawk HPS pads on the 2003 MM. They squeaked intermittently, didn't seem to be related to weather, humidity or any other condition. I was going to do something about it, but MVIV rolled around. Went to Gainesville for MM drag day. Running back to back laps late in the day, the brakes got really hot and squealed badly. Also smelled bad too. Did not fade at all or fail to keep on gripping just as good as when cold though. After they cooled down and we drove back to Kissimmee to the motel, we noticed the intermittent squeaking was cured. From then on, if things got a little squeaky, I would take the brakes somewhere empty of traffic and "exercise" them a little to get rid of the squeakies. Most of our driving is around the city 40 mph or less so the high performance pads never got used hard in daily driving.

Thanks Fastblackmerc & Cheesehead that's the stuff I was looking for.
Loevampire the Hawk hps pads are not champored. The compound is semi metalic. I did not check run out. My dial indicator is still on store shelf at Sears. There is no vibration under high speed hard braking to indicate run out.
Ckdiddle I did a road trip after a few additional aggresive stops the out come produced same results.

Hhmmm.... sounds like you have tried everything!

Depending on the base brake bonding material they used semi metalic pads can make noise through out the life of them especialy without a champored edge on them to allow material to easily flow past the surface of the pads.

And moister does effect them over night sitting just like the surface of the rotors.

I bought a set of ceramic pads and the squeeked like crazy....required a LOT of pedal pressure too!!!:shake:

Went back to OEM Ford stuff and all is well!!!:bows:

Go to Kragen or auto zone and buy a tube of the rubber adhesive for disc brake pads. Put it where the soft isolators would go.

File the leading edge of the pads to @ 45*...not the entire thickness, just the top portion...

and put a silicone adhesive on the back...

That may do the trick...
