I have TT on my SGII now - I set it up as a X Guage. I was surprised that just normal driving my transmission temp fluid was 180 - Highest I saw was 192. And it's not even hot here yet. I do have a +2QT aluminum pan but I'm not sure how effective it really is.

I do have a nice 22,000 BTU Tru Cool Mini Max installed (manufactured by LONG) , but I have yet to connect the lines and plumb it in. I do have a PI 9.5 2800 stall (which is closer to 3000 in reality) so that is making a lot more heat.

What temps do you guys see (that have a SGII or other real guage)

Thankx

Day-mmm 44K is a lot.

Thanks Landy. I am going to get mine plumbed next week. I also have the 180 bypass so the new cooler only goes to work when the fluid reaches 180.

Do you think you may be running a little too cool?

Do you think you may be running a little too cool?i dont know, i think thats perfect. but correct me if im wrong
on the highway cruising at 80mph on a long drive it stayed in the high 140's to low 150's.

depends on how new your SG2 is mine wasnt new enough to read it - for 25 dollars they upgraded it. There is now a bunch of Ford enhanced data that I can read. check their website its called the xguage function.

180-210 is fine......I think there is too much concern over trans fluid temps!!!

Change it regularly and fergedaboudit!!:D

I have a B&M trans cooler installed in series after the stock cooler. I'm also running a Stallion 3000 stall converter. My Autometer Trans temp gauge reads after both of them. Temp readings are usually no higher than 150 degrees coming out of both coolers back to the transmission. On a really hot summer day in rush hour traffic it did climb to 160-170, but started cooling down once moving. Remember that too a cool fluid is not always a good thing.

do you have to send it out to up grade it? this sounds very cool

I have a autometer trans temp gauge, that reads right at the bottum of the pan, normal fluid temp when warm (15 mins of driving) is around 180-190 for me, If Im really running through 1-2-3 it gets up towards 200-210.

Thinking about sending mine in for upgrade, I believe it can even read fuel trims with the upgrade.

My transmission temp is 190-205

I used these instructions to upgrade my scangauge.

Yes that's the right place - I bought mine in late 2007 - and the firmware version inside wansnt' new enough - so it didn't have the xgauge functionality...

Here is the upgrade form - $25 - http://www.scangauge.com/support/upgrade.shtml

If you have a higher stall aftermarket converter there is way more cause for alarm.

IDK, the graph looks general. I'd like to see something specific to our transmissions. I still think the 140~160 deg range at highway speeds quoted in eariler posts is just too cool. I can see doing a deep aluminum finned pan, but the extra cooler may not be necessary. Just my opinion.

would that low of degree make the trans not shift as smooth or shorten the lifespan?

I never said that Landy.

Just got my scangauge (xgauge) setup. Didn't even know I had it! As I've been told when trying to figure out problems with cyclotrons, RTFM.

I'm wondering if your "aftermarket" trans is talking to the PCM - 4R100 right?

Yeah, myself I've been dying to know what my Trans Temp was ever since I installed the PI 9.5 converter sans cooler!

I am getting a case of AMSOIL ATF this week so I will be changing the VB out and hooking up my 22K BTU Long cooler.

Dave: what happened on yours? Did you get it set? What's yours read?

I think when the trans fluid is too cold - it's a bit thicker and less optimum so the car may actually loose a bit of power - I'm not sure if this is even measurable. I'd rather be too cold than too hot anyway.

You can add in a 180 degree bypass valve so that when the trans fluid reaches 180 then it opens fully. I've never used one but I'm hoping it works out for me. I can't just plumb it in as I drive in the winter here in NY.

It took me about 5 minutes - there are lots of numbers to put in. I input values from the "Ford Enhanced Section" and gave it a label of "TT"

Sorry for the derail, I setup the scangauge to read fuel trims. My trans controller is a standalone, so it doesn't communicate with the scangauge. And it runs hot, but the 4R100 apparently is ok to run higher temparatures, it doesn't go into limp mode until over 250 degrees.

There was two sets of Xgauge settings.

One for the 2007 years range ver3.14 was the first ScanGauge II and had it's own list of parameters you could program in. It can support some of the new settings, but not all.

The newer one is ver3.17 which the Xgauges settings currently posted support.

If anyone needs the xgauge for the 1st gen of Scangauge II let me know i can scan the list send them to you. I have both gauges so no problem for me.

Yes....AND in the real world you won't see max temps but about 10%-15% of the fluid's life.......running too cold is more of a problem!!:shake:

Why do you think Ford puts a thermostat on the trans cooler??

Added coolers are just another "feel good" mod IMHO!!!

Added coolers are not a "feel good" mod *if* you have a smaller higher stall TC (like I do) - they should be mandatory. Ask Darren, Dennis or Lido. They will all recommend one. I did not like seeing my temps go up to and above 200F.

Update: My trans temp WILL NOT go above 182-183 - in torture traffic - with lots of jack rabbit driving. 95% of the the temp is 175-180. Works like a dream. Highly recommend the long cooler with the thermal bypass. The SGII reads the temp from the PCM sensor which is inside the transmission.
