Smoke puff on start up is common on 300As, but major oil consumption isn't, can you define "major" a little better?

i would say a quart at about 500 miles No smoke otherwise car run great no engine noise Like i pcv is wet with oil considering a catch can

In the morning when the engine is stone cold pull the plugs and take a look @ them see if there is oil deposits on them.

If you are burning that much oil something isn't right. And probably time to do a compression test as well.

300A with 81K miles and doesn't burn any oil. A little white smoke after sitting for a while (which it usually does all week long) on the first start up, then no problems.

My car burns a quart about every 3,000 miles... figured it was just a Ford thing... 103k on my MM

A quart in 500 miles is a lot. It's either leaking or being consumed. Assuming you've checked for puddles under the motor, have someone follow you while you go down an incline in second gear, then step on the gas and have them watch for any blue smoke.

no leaks Hard to believe a car with only 72k on it would use this much oil again how normal is it to have oil dripping in the pcv tube put in a new ford pcv last week

Yeah that is way too much oil. How's your tips look? Is there a lot of black soot in them or does any come out when the car is started up? If it does then you have bad rings.

Like Leo said pull the plugs when the car has been sitting over night and see if there is oil on the tips of the plug.

Very normal especially for a MM. Our PCV system sucks and not in a good way. Check the plugs then do a leak down test.

Just last week, I noticed oil dripping out of my PVC. I pulled it off and put a little silicone around the O ring. The PVC system does suck.

Im thinking of disconnecting it from the intake to see if that helps any Would like to find a breather to put in place of the pvc valve

Then you will spray it all over the Cam covers and engine bay.

I am at 69,800 miles on an '03 300B. Still doesn't use any oil between changes worth mentioning. The car has has regular service and oil changes at 5,000 mile intervals.

well I have to go after the obvious oil in the pcv system first. How about the catch cans with breathers plug the intake
