View Full Version : I want new calipers!

I started my brake job today, installing new rotors and pads. After taking apart the first assembly, and seeing the crappy stock calipers first hand, I'm really wanting new ones. I was going to paint the old ones, but when I unbolted the brake line, the fluid would not stop leaking out and I don't want it to run dry while I'm painting. (Is there a procedure for this?) Plus, I would love the look and performance of new calipers. The brakes really suck on my car.

So where are the best deals on calipers? I don't want to spend a fortune. I'm thinking maybe $500 tops for all 4 wheels.

Thanks for any advice.

I don't want stockers. Baer, Wilwood , Breembo etc. is what I'm hoping for. I'm having a hard time finding them on the net specific to the Marauder.

Everything I've seen is about fifteen hundo per axle.

You won't find any big brake kit for under a grand, and thats usually per axle (2 calipers)

I just switched over to slotted/dimpled rotors, and hawk hps pads all around and I noticed a HUGE improvement over OE braking.

Prolly looking closer to a couple grand if you're going with the aftermarkets you mentioned.

PM 03mmmonroe for tips on painting the OEM calipers. He just did mine, and no leaks.

I find Wilwood calipers for $125 each on a few sites. Seems pretty good. I already have new rotors. I assume the pads are specific to the caliper being used so the ones I just bought are no good.

What am I missing here?

Either stay stock, do the Mach 1 upgrade or buy a big brake kit. Those are your only options.

+1!!!

Really a big brake kit will cost you about 3x's what you want to spend and that is just for the front brakes.

The calipers are just a part of the kit.

The Wilwood calipers have to be machined to fit.

There are brackets you need for mounting the Wilwood calipers.

There are specific brake hoses for the Wilwood calipers.

There are 2-piece rotors for the Wilwood calipers.

So it looks like you need to do more work.....

Or

Contact Todd at TCE (he is a vendor here) and spend the money to do it right.

I've been experimenting with a possible "caliper kit" for your stock rotor for a customer who has some other specific needs. So far it looks promising but based upon similar set ups you're looking at $1200. (same price as that for the Charger/Magnum etc)

Yes there are $125 calipers but none of them are really well fit to your needs. Great if you have a dune buggy. You're needs take you to a totally different product line- as in $450-500ea calipers. Then add the radial mount bracket, pads, hoses, hardware....

I'll let you know if I finish it for this customer.
