I just got home from work and shut off the car, a 116 mile trip, I noticed the radiator fan was running and continued to run after the car was off so I waited about 10 min and went out side and it was still running disconnected the battery and reconnected it still running I checked the temps of the dash gauge and it was normal 20mph does anyone know whats up.

Sounds like a relay took a dump

There is a temp sending unit that turns it on and off and it may be stuck in the open loop.

Might have to change that sending unit.

Is this in the relay box under the hood is it easy to replace can I handle the repair myself.

Can you point me in the direction of the sending unit, can I meter it with an ohm meter

I know it is one of the one's on the cross over tube but can't remember which one. Unplug 1 at a time to see which one shuts off the fan.

The sending unit only sends an on/off signal to the relay, it does not provide the actual power to the fan. Like Zack said the relay took a dump. To confirm this, check owners manual to see what relay it is and pull it out. Grab a similiar relay next to it in the box and switch it over to the fan relay location (almost ALL of the relays in that box are identical). This should solve your problem, if not you probably have some shorted wiring somewhere. If you don't have an owners manual for some reason let me know and I'll look it up for you.

Yes it could be the relay has gone bad and it would be an easier and cheaper way to go to start with. If it dosn't work then you would have to change the sensor it's self.

50Amp spot # 102 in the box under the hood.

Might be a good idea to unhook the battery before putting in the new circuit breaker just incase or it could blow out the new one if the sending unit is still sending an open loop signal to turn on the fan.

BTW I looked @ autozone and advance auto and no one is listing that circut breaker so it might be a Ford item to get your hands on one.

The Marauder has a variable speed fan. My first guess would be the speed control module which is mounted on the fan shroud. The silver box with 2 wires going to the motor.

The circut is still keeping the fan on and not shutting it down so it is something else before the fan causing the problem.

Thanks for all the info, I will head out to the garage and start checking the relays and if it is the speed controler, I have an extra shroud with the controler still on it from my 03 CVPI. I will report back with the resolution.

First time I have heard of this happening to anyone so definatly interested in the end finding.

Keep in mind if you need the 50a circuit breaker and have to go through Ford you want to hit the parts office before they close.

I go to the junkyard and get them by the bucket load. Screw paying for new!

As soon as I opened the relay box lid the fan turned off, I started the car let it heat up and the fan came on had the wife turn the car off and I could hear the relay chatter as it turned the fan off. Thanks again guys I will replace the relay and watch it closely.

You were right, I had the dreaded fan issue again today tapped relay box and no response the fan was still running on high speed, I removed the variable speed contrler and fan motor assembly from the shoud and replaced it with my old 2003 CVPI motor and control. It now is working pefectly.
