RP cold air kit
Well I have good news, we now these in stock, I feel they are by far the best cold air kit for the Marauder as well as the late model Crown Vic's, I am going to offer these with a K&N style intake tube, since the Carbon fiber is very expensive and no longer made, but I am going to send one out and have it coated to appear as carbon fiber and I will Post new pictures, and figure out a fair mark up, and sell these as soon as possible.

Well I got four of these last week, I am installing one on Ford Wrench's car, and he got the last carbon tube I had, now there kits are different than the one years ago as you can see they sent clips for the nuts for the stainless steel cover screws which are also SS. And this cover is polished the older one was not. It comes with the optional tube as shown, I sent one to Hydo Solutions to get the cost to see if I can sell it plain or carbon coated laminate.

Thanks Dennis. I have driven the car for about a week and it's drives much better. I have not done many wide open throttle events but it feels good and I plan to do some test and tune in a few weeks after I get my Nittos. The new CAI looks great! I also believe I may have picked up a little mpg w/this tune.
We missed you at the car show but I realize you were busy. It was better than expected with 63 cars and trucks. We figured about 40 cars as we had less than two months to put this together. Next year we will probably do it a little earlier and promote it better and hope for a hundred. We would love to have you. Modern Mustangs of Jax did a great job!

Dennis Reinhart
05-13-2011, 11:07 AM
I fully agree with you that adding the color to the engraving would be a nice touch. Now regardless of what a few people think I am not making a lot on this kit, so when the price is posted if you want the kit fine, if not Travis has one Bruce has one and K&N. This is a polished SS cover a powder coated base a custom S&B air filter that is shown in this thread here. If I could order twenty I could get them cheaper. I can not do this, so I feel 250.00 is a fair price. The K&N goes for that if we want to try a group buy of ten or more I am sure I can lower the price. I also can get the tube used on the K&N if any one is interested for a small additional fee you want to spend more I can get it painted to look just like carbn fibor, I should have one kit here next week for all to look at, I hope every one has a safe weekend.
I'm ready to order!!!

J.Bo please read the entire post. For the members that do not want it I fullt respect that and I understand that. Tis is your choice the base is steel powder coated the air filter is custom made by S&B which is better than K&N. the sheield is pollished stainless steel and custom engraved with the Marauder logo. I have to buy five at a time and it is less that Pauls original kit and much beter quality. Pauls came with out the tube I had Metco make a carbon tube this is now now no longer made and that was about 300.00. I can get the K&N but that will be more money, and I could get carbon fiber coated more money. I am here to do the best I can for you the members.

I'm sure many of us here have heard the old saying that patience is a virtue and sometimes we have to wait on a good thing, will that is the case with the cold air kit that many of you have so patiently been waiting on. I received the prototype today and the cover is absolutely perfect, the marauder logo looks awesome. I had SNB custom make a filter for this cold air kit and it is a little bit too large which is not an issue I am calling them today. The kit will come with Chrome fasteners and the hardware and instructions the base will be powder coated black. As you can see in the photographs the air filter has an open ended element so does the cold air kit this will match up perfectly with the outside air opening that's built into the marauder front header panel, this will allow fresh outside air to enter the front of the conical open ended air cleaner. For those of us that go to the drag strip if you took out the headlight this would actually increase forced air induction for the naturally aspirated marauders. So I am ready to start taking orders I've have half a dozen sitting on my desk I have not run their credit cards but I intend to do so this week. I've have given the manufacturer the go-ahead to start production.

Is $250 the price for the filter and the housing?
It is the price for the complete kit.

On my 65 Comet he faces right.
On my 03 Marauder he faces left.
My choice would be to have him face the direction of all his buddies on the car.

Part 1
There has been a lot of good points brought up about IAT, and our cars, so here is what I can shed on this as well.
What is IAT, IAT stands for intake air temperature, and OAT stands for outside air temperature. The Mercury Marauder has both a 0AT sensor as well as an IAT sensor. The 0AT sensor is located in front of the AC condenser on the driver side. And it works with the cars air conditioner. The IAT sensor is built into the mass airflow sensor. IAT sensor on a centrifugal as well as roots or Eaton supercharged car is critical, years ago the IAT sensor was placed at the inlet of the supercharger this is incorrect; it should be placed on the outlet of the supercharger. This is why you run a separate IAT on the Eaton’s and Vortech S/C now if you use the SCT slotted Maf it also has the IAT built into it and if you install this in the pipe going to the T/B the IAT is in it’s proper place this is called a blow through configuration, if the Maf is on the inlet of the S/C this is called a suck through configuration.
The reason why this is so important is the IAT sensor is telling the computer what's the actual temperature that is entering the throttle body, so if you're taking your IAT reading from the inlet of the supercharger that is seeing OAT once this air has been compressed by the supercharger this dramatically raises the air temperature well over 150° but the computer is seeing out side air, OAT not the 150 degree raised air. So if it is on the discharge of the S/C then you will have a true reading of the air temperature entering the intake. This is also why you run an intercooler. To lower inlet air temperature so you can run more timing. An efficient intercooler should allow for about 20° over your outside air temperature this is either water to air intercooler or an air to air intercooler.
On Eaton supercharged cars the IAT when properly placed is in the lower intake this allows for real-time air temperature readings which are critical to keep the car from spark knocking or detonating with rapid increases in your IAT, this happens especially at the track when running back to back passes or sever duty driving on hot summer days, originally the Eaton supercharged cars use the IAT built into the mass airflow sensor in essence this is exactly what Vortech did years ago by placing the IAT at the inlet of the centrifugal supercharger instead of on the outlet of the supercharger this will give a totally false reading to the ECM and can lead to engine damage.
Now on naturally aspirated Marauders using a stock mass airflow sensor as earlier stated the IAT is built into the mass airflow sensor so as air is drawn into the air cleaner and then passes through the mass airflow sensor you're taking an actual reading of the air that is entering the mass airflow sensor and sending that to the ECM as real-time data. With the hood closed on our cars on 100° day the IAT can climb well over 150° now once the car starts moving and air starts passing through the radiator and the engine bay the IAT will drop to about what the outside air temperature is.There's absolutely no way with a naturally aspirated Marauder are you going to see an IAT reading lower than the outside air temperature. If you have an efficient air box or cold air kit, CAK as previously stated, you are going to see the outside air temperature once the cars moving at highway speeds. Now if you hit the car with a shot of nitrous in front of the mass airflow sensor you would see an immediate drop in IAT.
Part 2
Now what does a CAK actually do, a true Cold air kit would take all its inlet air from the out side of the engine compartment, it allows for a larger volume of air to enter the intake, the critical factors are, if there is a larger amount of air entering the intake it is possible to lean the car out, now if a car is leaner it will make more power, but you can also be to lean and the car could spark knock and break a ring or burn a valve. This is why companies invest in dyno testing to verify that the cars air fuel AF has not been changed do to the CAK. And if it has been changed that can easily be corrected with custom tuning. I have had many cars on the dyno. I have done before and after dyno runs, the 3V GT Mustang gains significantly with a good CAK and a custom tune, the new 3V 5.4 Ford trucks really perk up with a CAK and a tune because the CAK does have a big effect on AF air fuel.
The limiting factors of any CAK are the filter element size and the over all design of the CAK base and inlet tube, to small of a air filter will limit air volume of the CAK itself, and you never want a bend in tubing in front of the MAF mass air flow sensor, what that will cause is the air to become turbulent as it enters the MAF and this can throw off the mass air flow transfer function even further, but it some times can be corrected on the dyno but you are better off avoiding this if possible. On air filters that use oil, you have to be very careful of not to over oil the air filter element because under WOT the air coming through the air filter can actually pull the oil off the filter and it will collect on the hot wire element of the mass air flow sensor and can ruin it or alter its reading.
Now during the next week I will have a 03 Marauder N/A on the dyno, I will start with a completely stock tune I will do a pull with a stock air box and then with a K&N and a JLT and the new kit I have, I will data log every thing I normally do when I tune on the dyno. And I will post the data. I should have the new S&B filter here on Monday. I hope every one has a good weekend.

I have those in stock and I will fit this on the car to tested next week. I am sure the K&N tube will have to be shortened to allow for the length of the CAK.
Dennis are you going to use a K&N filter in the stock filter box? I would love to see that vs the stock paper filter.

Your welcome Mark and have a good weekend and thanks for your support.
I was referring to the stock air box using k&n panel filter when you start testing. How is S&B better than K&N?
Just got back in town Dennis, looks nice would love to have one. Getting ready for Miami; whats the date on my MM making it back home?

Years ago there was a member that was doing the etching for the PHP lid. Barry (Cruztaker) was selling one two years back and I picked up the lid from him. It looks laser etched with the Gods head on top and "MARAUDER" along the side of the tin.

I love this CAI Kit. Metco tube is sexy but my K&N tube will have to do. How much needs to be trimmed off the K&N ? I really like the fact that this CAI uses the factory bolt locations to secure it. Can someone post a picture of the mounting points again (bolts)
Thanks!

After three attempts this week S&B finally got the filter right, I spoke to the company that is making the CAK and they are at the powder coaters so they will be ready next week tomorrow I will show the sample CAK thanks for being so patient and I am looking in to the laser etching.
Looks good Dennis I would love to have it tested on my car; its been a while since I seen it; recognized it by the License Plate. The alternator looks great. Just out of curiousity what would it take to put a 5.4 cobra block in there or am I getting ahead of myself. Allen
