Looks good and the car actually stops now! I custom painted the rear rotor center portion. Notice the undercoating in the last pic.

Holy crap, did you spray everything black in that last shot?

I think he said he undercoated everything, 'cept the brakes.

Just a question why didn't you spray the inner cooling fins of the rotors to keep from having a rust build up in that area that may effect the cooling process down the road while you were at it?

And you should have taped off the rubber dust boots around the pistons on the calipers to keep the spray off of them.

Whoops, missed that. Either way, looks good, I love the blacked out look on vehicles.
Who did the undercoating and what did it cost if you don't mind?

Agree they look like R1's I'd get slotted only version. I do like how the center of the rotor is painted.

Where do you come up with this stuff?

I hope you didnt spray undercoating on the slides where the caliper moves. You will get warped rotors and uneven brake wear not too far down the road.

Yes, I taped off the boots. No I didn't undercoat the exhaust. I sprayed it with heat resistant paint.

I have seen a lot of rotors over the years working on customers cars where the inside of the center cooling fins are cloged solid with rust. New England has a way of doing that with all the salt on the roads.
When your machining these on a lathe even with a vibration damper ring on the rust just seems to pour out of the center cooling fins for ever and you wonder why they did not warp sooner from excess heat build up.

One guy who was or is a vender on here even showed some pictures of his doing this to the rotors he sells to people to keep a nice look and to prevent rust build up.

I did it myself with 8 cans at $4 each.

Semi-gloss.

looked like the pipe was the same color as the under coating and ditto on the boots for the pistons on the calipers vs the paint work there.

That is why I asked.

Here's the painted hubs. Look close in the pic with the wheel installed. Looks so much better. I hope it lasts. We'll see.

I went to have them rebalanced today. I got $181 off 2 new front BFG tires because they had some dry rot and plenty of tread left. What a great surprise! Thanks to Scott at Discount Tire in Algonquin, Illinois.

Yes they are R1's. We'll see if they warp. I'm pretty easy on the brakes. The car stops unbelievably great now. I could not be happier!

What brakes did you end up going with, the Racing Concepts?

tbone

It was their ceramic pads. I don't think it was anything to do with racing. It sure stops great now.

Has anyone ever painted the wheel inner hubs like I showed in the pics?

I sure like the look. I think I did it right with the cleaning, prepping, priming and painting. It always bugged me seeing the rusty brakes and slimy, cruddy wheels through the rims....

I hope it lasts! I believe it will with the prep I did. If not, I will be vigilante on keeping it nice, as we all should on our Marauders, since they are getting a little older......and more valuable......and definitely more loved.......
