View Full Version : Passing on the Mantle of Marauder Ownership…

I don’t write much on the forum, but I read a lot, and tonight, I need to share with the Marauder family some stuff I’ve been meaning to say for a while.

It’s been ten months since I picked up my Marauder. Ten months of an absolutely superb and satisfying driving experience, driving my dream car. Ten months where I was guaranteed a grin every time I opened the door and slid behind the wheel of the black beauty. Ten months of enjoying having a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, the finest overall set of attributes assembled in recent memory by Ford Motor Company. Ten months of ogles, stares, “WTF?s”, thumbs up and wows. Ten months of steering by accelerator, shifting for the 1-2 scratch, and getting into the sweet spot on the road ahead of the pretenders and ricers…effortlessly. Ten months of respect among my peers, (including those at the General), of handing over the keys to strangers, or talking up the Company that provides my bread, or reading the forums on MM.net and finding out how different, yet similar in satisfaction our experiences have been. Ten months that come to a close tomorrow, when the Marauder goes on the “B” lot for sale, and I pick up my Escape. Can you picture a grown man crying?

Now, before you all get the flame throwers going, understand this is a choice made with careful contemplation, for financial reasons that have to do with raising some short term funds, and nothing to do with moving on to a better vehicle. Also, my hope is that I can turn around in a year and pick up a used 2004 model and continue driving my dream. But before I say goodbye to my pride and joy of 2003, I want to share with you some of my thoughts after ten fine months.

1. You can’t buy a better 5 passenger full size car; it’s a great family hauler.
2. Style, performance and safety maximized in a single package.
3. The best-kept handling secret on the streets, no BMW driver believes a body on frame vehicle can be so sweet…until they try it.
4. Any “car guy” recognizes its potential for modification instantly, and wants to know what you’ll do to it next.
5. Worth two parking spots at most malls, restaurants and other fine areas of parking lot damage, but nobody messes with it.
6. Got the boss’s boss to drive one. Not a bad way to brown-nose.
7. Always a great topic of conversation when the party starts to slow down
8. The Marauder owners on MM.net are the finest group of internet forum users I have ever seen on the net – a truly respectful and respectable group.
9. The kindergarten-age daughter gets bragging rights about “Daddy’s Marauder” at school
10. The best, completely legal attitude adjustment there is, (short of whatever might go on between consenting adults).

I think I need to thank you, the other Marauder owners, most of all, for being such a positive force in promoting this product, and enjoying the vehicle, and sharing your stories. Being in the community on this site makes you feel even more special, than just having the best darn car on the planet!

Enough said. Think I’ll go and visit Jack Daniels for a while…and dream of a DTR Marauder…

seabreeze, you expessed my thoughts perfectly--watchin the look on the faces of those I let drive the Marauder is so satisfying--you have to do what you have to do--I'm looking forward to having fun at least til the warranty runs out (100,000 or 6 yrs) for the car or me ( 75 + 6 = 81 years old). Please stay with us and keep us informed and keep up with the latest news---you will be right up-to-date when you get your next Marauder--Good Luck, Maury

seabreeze,
Very well said, indeed.
Reminds me of a sonnet.
An agonizing decision, I'm sure.
My DTR is safe today, but one has to do what's best for an overall sense of well being at any given time.

My boss is about to turn his MM in at work and pick up a new T-Bird. Since I worked at the building I'm at now he has gone from a convertible Jag to a S-Jag to a convertible Volvo to a MM. Now he is going to a T-Bird. Talk about going out of the world ass-backwards.

T-birds are incredible works of art, and incredibly nice cars, but just really arn't very practical for many people. Very low roof, only seating for 2, very little storage and the list goes on.

Seabreeze, take care and although i'm new to this forum, I hope you join back very shortly. This is a really special car, with a lot of special owners!

CRUZTAKER,

Your comment is quite thoughtful...and quite clever, too !
I've just joined this forum in Oct '03, right before my '04 DTR arrived, and all the members seem like family.
In second place for the best decisions made in 2003, the purchase of my DTR being in first place, is this forum.
Very glad to be a member !

I am also kind of new to this forum and everyone that I have meet it was like meeting family that you did not know that you had, in some cases for the better...right Marty. Take care and good luck on your decision. We're here if you need us.

Breeze, you're still part of the family. Don't go away, just because your beloved MM has to go away.

Well, there are parts of the family that are a bit dysfunctional. Take Todd for example. No, really, I mean take Todd! Please!!

All kidding aside, where can ya find better friends than around here. Heck, I plan on hanging around here even after I get my new GT40. Then again, how else would I get BillyGMan to wax it for me?

I thought this was a younger (and thinner) version of you in this pic with "the Master of the Pocanos"...

Todd...Ya got the wrong pic posted.

That's Dave, Jerry and Lidio post SEMA. Lidio's been working so hard, he hasn't had time to shave. After the last Trilogy dash down the 1320, Jerry still can't find his glasses (I told you to keep the window up, now check the back seat floor again) and Dave...Well, Dave is Dave, what else can I say, right?

"B" lot? What is that? Trade-in?

I've been looking for a month to buy one from a private owner in the Detroit area! Arrgh!

It DOES look like Dave

But...I'd never tell Jerry that he looks like a sweaty, Henni Youngman...now maybe a shorter Lyle Waggoner (with glasses)

Sucked me right in!! I thought he was selling his second Marauder! It's nice to know Scott DID get his 2004 DTR!!

Scott was actually IN a Ford commercial with his wife!!

Whow, what can one say after reading that. Just because you have to let it go doesn't mean you have to leave us here, you've become a member of our family and will always be.

Scott, you couldn't have said it better. I'm like you ,I don't post much but have the same feelings about the car, the website and the the people who make up this family. I know you have to do what you have to do but when things turn around you'll do what you want to do. Good luck and stay in touch.

I don't know what's scarier --- the fact you posted this picture, or that you also have it taped to your driver side visor....

Just found this address a couple of days ago. Bought my 03 blue MM in March of 03. First blue car in Atlanta. Have enjoyed every mile. Only problem is some r&p whine. Replaced the gears, replaced the entire third member, replaced the gears again and still have a whine. Any ideas? Plan to keep the car for a long time and will keep it factory stock except for a K&N. Other vehicles are an "89 Mustang GT Conv.,94 F150 4WD P/U and a 05 HD Electra Glide Classic. Retired in '97 but insurance and fuel costs make it necessary for me to freelance to make a few extra bucks. Nice website, I'll be back

Chuck - Welcome aboard.:D
Did you have the gears installed professionally.
IMO the install is most important.
Many members have had their gears changed with no problems.

on my red one, got 4/10s. I waited a year. Tune and gears are the best low cost mod out there.

This thread is a nice odyssey thru almost 3 years now. Clearly shows why we love it here. I especially like seeing the same folks who now are the revered OLD GUARD referring to them selves as NEW. Thanks folks for being the glue and wisdom that has made this work till now and especially for the caring for each other and all of us that is so appearent and clearly exhibited here AND THROUGHOUT MM.NET.
