I know you said you put a fresh battery in, but the fast ticking noise is a sign of a bad/dead battery. My work trucks when they are not charged overnight have a fast ticking sound when we try to start them. A jump is all they need.

Yeah, but he said it is happening even when you aren't trying to start the car? Sounds like something shorted out.

Disconnect the battery until you get an answer
It could be that the new battery is NFG too, possibly welding your starter solenoid together.

Radid clicking is a dead give away to either a bad battery or conection.

if it happens when trying to crank its the battery.... if it continues when you stop trying to crank there is a short somewhere at the starter. Youll have to pull it out and replace/rebuild it im betting.
Does it sound like the starter area is where the clicking is coming from?
What battery did you put in it???

Mice got to the wires.
Where was it sitting?

That happened to me and I paid $200 for a brand new alternator. After about a week of no problems it happened again:mad2:. Took the car to a different mechanic and it turned out to be the battery terminal was corroded. It sounds like that could be your problem. Check you battery terminals for corrosion. Hope that helps.

I'd try another battery.

That is what I was thinking!
My grandfathers explorer sat for a while and it was a mouse mansion! The air box was one big nest! mouse dropping everywhere. I was affraid to drive it, but my mom drives it everyday now with no problems so I guess they didn't get to the wires, but this sounds like a wires issue due to mice!

That ticking sound happened to me once with one of our fleet CVPIs a few years ago. I'm sorry I can't remember all of the specifics, because it was a few years ago, but the clicking was similar to that coming from a flasher module on a fuse panel under the steering column area. Happened even after the car was off too. Turned out to be the battery. I know you said it was a "new" battery, but even new batteries need to be charged sometimes as it could have been sitting on a shelf for months.

Car electronics are delicate and require certain voltages to operate properly. A dead or low battery will make door lock actuators pulse and relays click rapidly. I would not let the "mice" theory scare you unless droppings and visible chewing is apparent. A fully charged battery is first and foremost. If you have a question about the starter - either remove it OR take the wires from it and then reconnect power. Your new battery should read about a minimum of 13 volts. Also, turn on the lights and honk the horn and watch for excessive dimming of the lights - that is a tell-tale issue of a battery that may have voltage, but no amperage. I have 23 years in car electrical - not a whole lot that can scare me or trip me up. If you lived close - I would come do all this myself. Best of luck. Don't be discouraged. Keep us posted!

This was happening to my atv's. I wound up putting little poison blocks under the seats. Not a problem anymore. Hide a couple under your hood.

That ticking noise might be your LCM. Happened to me during the swap, turns out one of main grounds were not hooked up. I would check around the battery to make sure your grounds are good that go to the body (right next to the battery). Next check the ground strap from your bell housing to the body.
That is where I would start, anyway. Electrical problems are a PITA. Did you hook up a charger to verify the battery is dead? Also check the battery terminals to make sure they are on tight. One last thing is, make sure your ground wire from the terminal and power wire from the terminal is not corroded.
Worse comes to worse its time to pick up a wiring diagram book and while you are at it a shop manual and start running through all the grounds. That power distribution box right near your battery has a ground as well to the terminal, make sure that is still in place.

just go exchange the "new" battery for another one, it is probably bad.
If not it is a loose ground somewhere...
