I know the K&N has the supposed heat sheild, but that seems pretty ineffecient. The OEM airbox had that additional tube to draw in air from outside the engine compartment...is there not an aftermarket equivalent to this that can be used with the K&N FIPK? It seems like you could make and/or modify the factory airbox to house the K&N cone filter, which would allow for more of a "heat sheild", as well as re-install the intake tube that was drawing air from in front of the engine (through the bumper).
I tried searching the forums, as it seemed like something some1 else had discussed previously, but I rarely seem to have any luck when I search for other posts....or if I do, it brings back about 4000 threads to wade through

Has any NA guy with an intake and a scangauge read the air intake temps while moving? Mine are always under ambient while moving, so I don't see the issue

The majority of air coming into the K&N comes through the holes in the radiator support panel, just like the factory air filter. Except it comes through two holes instead of one. The top of the enclosure seals against the hood liner. It can draw some air in from over the radiator cover, but I don't believe it's enough to worry about.

thanks for that bit of input...I had forgotten that it seals against the hood...
