I have a buddy who is going to make me long tube headers for $500? Basically the headers going be custom made, it will be stainless steel material for our Marauders and it will have an optional 02 sensor and EGR holes, What do you guys think 500 + shipping is a good deal?
Would you invest in this deal?
I payed more than that. You should get them do a before and after dyno comparison lets see how they stack up to Kooks or SW headers.

depends on quality
He will try his best to make it 100% good quality, each headers will be hand made , laser cut professionally and pressure tested for any leak , I will get more info from him this week about this

No. 2V vs 4V heads, exhaust ports are different.

Has the guy ever made up a set of headers before? Does he plan to use either a set of SW or Kooks as templates, or is he going to start from scratch?
If the latter, I'd consider this offer real carefully, as he's going to have to measure, fit, and bend eight separate tubes, plus fit them into collectors, this along with welding to mounting flanges that will have to be layed out and then fabricated. You're not gonna do this in 8 hours.
All this for $500 bucks? He's either:
(A) a real good friend that will do the work at a loss.
(B) a very poor estimator that will end up doing the work at a loss.
(C) a hack that will cobble something together and throw it on your car.
I know you're looking for a decent price for headers, but you may want to re-consider your plan. Kooks or SW are prolly a better option than a one-off set of custom built headers unless the builder is very familar with header construction.

I'd LOVE to get a set of new LT headers, but to believe I could get 'em for $500? Seriously, you're looking at around 25 ft of stainless tubing; 1 1/2" I.D. 316 stainless will set you back at least a couple $100, plus the flat stock for the port and collector flanges as well as a couple pieces of 3"-4" dia. SS tubing for the collectors, add in welding rod or wire...parts alone are going to total close to $400, and then get somebody to design, layout, fab, fit, and weld the whole works into a set of usable headers for a $100?
We should all have friends like this...

This is really two questions. I said Yes, it was a good deal, but I should have said "No, I would not invest" as I have headers...

I can understand how they are expensive, but $1000 in parts alone, minimum, is a lot to budget for for some folks.
Bawazir, be sure to keep detailed updates going on this project, this is a big thing to just get peoples' hopes up for.

Speed = $$$$$, it's just that simple.:shake: If it costs too much for you to get the right part, then you should have probably bought something with a 350 Chevy motor in it, those parts are cheap.

Headers do not need to cost $1000.00. I would personally rather spend the downtime in designing my own before i'd ever give them what they want price wise.

I didn't pay 1k for my SW's either. I would rather have a product that I can....
bolt on.
know it will fit.
know it will improve performance.
look good out the gate.
My time is worth more than the cost of the headers, i.e. hours fabbing up something, only to find that it didn't improve anything.
Sometimes it's cheaper to buy your way out.

That was my point with the one-off. Both Kooks and SW are products that have been designed and proven. The fabbing, testing, and mods have already been done, and the jigs built to allow consistent replication.
I'm not saying that one-offs won't work, but to expect that somebody can do this for $500, and produce something of similar quality to an established product is a tall order.

I think Kooks or SW needs to offer a non stainless version kind of like Bassani did with their BX series. Would drop the price a bit.

I'd like to know how some of you guys paid so little for your long tubes, All I see on Kooks' and Stainless Works' website is a little under $1000 for headers alone and it just goes up from there. Is it just too late in the game to get a deal like that any more?

After you put your first set on, you'll be glad that they're stainless and will last for a few years.

If the guy is a professional header guy, then many will benefit from this. If the guy is just a welder then there will be problems, especially for $500.00. Anyone think about the bends? Will they be crush bent or mandrel bent? Or is he just gonna cut pipe at angles and put them all together with a million welds? How about the flanges? Car Craft is out of business and are not selling them any more. The finish coating? There are alot of variables to making a good header work.
