Just a reminder, weld up the plugs at the ends of the air tubes on the front of the headers, they aren't used on the MM and if they blow out they are hard to replace.

Absolutely correct----ask me how I know.............and not only that but it makes noise like open headers----hard to disguise while getting to the shop for repairs----....oh the stares you will get!!!!!!

enlighten me on the perks of the shorty headers please....price looks good...seems less diffiult to mess with then long tube headers....with an x-pipe and some 2.5" piping...how do u think that would turn out

the only benefit really is that they are easier to install. you WILL leave some hp on the table though.

i mean i only have bolt on mods...will it really matter with the horse power that i have...maybe upgrade to long tubes when i get built or add a supercharger

if i were you, and you plan on an SC down the road, id just save for the blower and add the headers (either lts or shorties) after. you will notice a bigger gain.

If you've got the $$$ get blown!

But if your in Cali or dont want LT then you could justify if:

You pay 200.00 for the FRPP like I did
You pay 100.00 for the mid pipe like did
You pay 200.00 for the install like I will
You pay 100.00 for the exhaust work like I will

$600.00 for parts and labor when its all said and done. BTW...Ive gotten quotes for 5-6 hundred just for labor so...shop around.

musclemerc
05-13-2010, 05:02 PM
You got the labor done for 200.00! Daymmm, that was a deal!

But yeah like he said it's all about money.
175.00 shorty JBA's
125.00 Mac Prochamber
90.00 Magnaflow high flow cats
100.00 Muffler shop to finish weld everything
$490.00 total and I did the install

do u have any sound clips musclemerc?

musclemerc
05-13-2010, 06:08 PM
Nah, I never did any. I'm running the stock mufflers with my set up. It's throaty but quiet the pro chamber is the best of both worlds. An H pipe at low rpm and idle and when you get on it sounds like an X but without the crackling they are famous for. But best of all my cabin has no drone.

I picked up my shorties from Musclemerc (250.00) and am VERY happy!!! Hacked off the air tubes, filled'em in,and installed myself.200.00? saved. had the exhaust done(2.5, no cats) by my local weld shop, 100.00. Taking 200 to place called "Modular Depot" for a dyno tune and waiting on a race!!... No matter how you slice it, 550.00 total beats Lt's any time.

550 sounds real nice to me fellas....i am gonna need to pass emissions still tho(in MD)...any thoughts or problems with that? if i keep one set of cats i should be fine right?

A/F is my big issue rite now, and possibly a new torque converter.

musclemerc
05-14-2010, 07:12 PM
Our EGR is still active and i'm running high flow cats so emmissions aren't an issue. BTW you can't use the stock stuff when you do the shorty swap. It won't work

Any shorty can have the EGR system connected. Mine took one double male threaded fitting, a little bending and done.

Do they actually put probe up the tail pipe?

I have made a couple of these for a few guy's. Mine have a female on one end and a male on the other. The SS is a mother to work with as far as flaring and bending
