XRA R8G

Curious if anyone has any feeling about these... (im not paying for it... American Express points are buying this thing!)

maybe someone has it, and likes it? or maybe recommend a different model.

If you are leaning towards a cheaper model, I have had nothing but good experiences with my Whistler.

Cobra consistently rates poorly on all radar tests - check tests on-line. Beltronics is your best radar detector for the money. It rates with Escort and Valentine for less money.

I am only posting to make TMF look smart.

Keep buying Cobras. They are the reason LEOs think RDs don't actually work.

stay away from the cheaper ones. I bought a used beltronics STI driver and it's amazing. paid only 200 bucks for it it was like brand new in the origional case with all the accesories. in stores here it's $700 new so I got a smoking deal. and no matter whats wrong with the unit it's 60 bucks to get fixed back at beltronics.

Just cut through the case and purchase a jammer.

a jammer is only for Laser wont do a thing for K band or KA band I woud invest in a good detector before a jammer. unless you want to spend 2 grand for the complete kit.

Beltronics and Escort are owned by the same person for Five or so years now. V1 is how I roll, since 2001.

the V1 is a great unit but is no longer #1 it's nice that it has 2 sensor's one in the front window one in the rear so it tells you which direction the threat is coming from. but if you have more then one vehical it's a 30 min process to uninstall it and re install in the other vehical. atleast with a windsheld mound it takes seconds to relocate..... plus that V1 is so damn ugly and old fashoned looking

this one http://www.escortradar.com/store/passport-9500ix.html right now is rated # 1 it uses GPS to remember false alarm locations and has a super large updateable red light cam database. this one is the best.

this one http://www.beltronics.com/store/sti-driver.html is the one I have. it preforms almost identical to the one above except no GPS. but the sti driver is the only radar detector that has a outter shell made out of Magnesium, and is the only radar detector that is un detectable to radar detector detectors lol, so depending where you live or where you drive for alot of people the STI driver is there only option...just some advice tho. for alot you can go with either the red screen or pay the extra 35 bucks and go with a fancy blue screen.. speaking from experience the blue screen is fine during the day but at night is hard on the eyes and looks blury. I would stick wit the easy to read red display.

If those are a lil pricey for you also the escort 8500 X50 http://www.escortradar.com/passport8500x50-details.php it's decent gets lots of positive reviews, I just about pulled the trigger on it till I saw the super deal on the STI driver.... like I said I love it.

If you are only buying something because someone tells you to buy it, then I say go buy Rocky Mountain Radar products from a guy off ebay.

There. I did my part. :D

I bought my first Valentine when Mr. Valentine brought out his first unit. Years later when laser came out he upgarded my unit for a small charge. Years later he offered a total new unpgrade ...trade in the old unit for a first class new one... minimal charge again...I have em in both my cars... over the years when I ordered replacement suction cups...they came a no charge!!!

I have similar experience from Valentine with 1 free upgrade and 2 new power cords n/c. Don't know if the escort or Bel are better but I can say that the Valentine serves me well enough that if you add in the above average customer service and the fact that you can actually talk to someone on the phone should you have a problem they will remain my detector of choice.
