Hey everyone... I've posted here a few times in the past but am a regular over on CVN. I wanted to stop over here and see what was going on. I am, however, proud of the Beige *****'s most recent achievement.
On the right.

This was done at Pittsburgh Raceway Park a few weeks ago. My tune is not quite right and I know there is a slightly harder launch to be had... the conditions were 62 degrees and overcast. Car was full weight, with way too much (38 pounds) air in the tires.
My latest mod was a 10", 3600 stall torque converter. With it I had a j-mod done and an auxilary transmission cooler installed.
I've just about knocked two full seconds off the car's 1/4 mile time from stock. Once I get the bugs worked out, it will happen. Stoopid base models. :P

Odd, I can see the timeslip, but the car pic is a red X. Oh well, congrats:beer:

Thanks! Much appreciated. I think the entire drag strip heard me cheering after picking up the time slip.

Unfortunately, nothing in the foreseeable future. I am planning on relocating shortly, and to make everything easier I paid the car off... 26 months early. So basically I am tapped out for now.

That was a close race!

That was a close race!
If you look at the timeslip, it looks like he got him on the reaction time. If they both had a close reaction time, I bet it would have been a dead even race! Very cool!

I was ahead of him clear until the last 200 feet or so. To anyone watching, it looked like I was walking a 350Z.

You were racing a 350z? They are that slow? WTF!?

He was having serious launch issues. I was surprised as hell.

Was he an automatic?
At any rate, that 1/4 time matched with that 1/4 speed doesn't add up well to me.

Agreed, 1/4 mile at 100mph should be high 13's (all depending on other mods I guess)

Didn't notice that. I agree. 99MPH for a 14.9? with 3.73's (16" wheels)
Seems very high.
I run a 14.02 @ 97

It makes sense now. CV is on the right and got a much better launch than the Z. Look at the 60' times. Lots of races are won right there. The Z was catching him at the end. Look at the trap speeds. The Z is almost 10mph faster through the traps. Slower car beating a faster car driven by someone who doesn't know how to drive well.
That's very cool if you're in the slower car. Many or most MMs wouldn't dip into the 14s stock. I know mine wouldn't.

Ok, yep I was thinking CV was on left. 14.99 @ 90.5 is correct. I ran a 14.5 with a K&N and a tune. (all else stock)

It looks like the Z driver just wasn't good at getting off the line, but the power of the car still got him up to a 99mph trap speed.
It is the tire spin that caused the Z to lose. The Z had the better reaction time but lost as he had no traction. Gotta work on the launch!;)

What kills me is that he couldn't catch up before around 1200 feet! Even with a bad launch, he should be able to catch my grandpa car when he's only .4 seconds down or so.
So go back for a rematch and see what happens. The next time you will get it handed to you. Glory is in this race but my money is on the other guy in the next. He spun the tires hard and if it was a stick car he may have missed a gear on top of it. Some days you get lucky!:)

he had a lot of wheel spin.
i owned a 2000 civic si with a turbo, putting 230hp to the wheels(somebody stole it), i ran a 14.961, at 106mph....spun through 1st,2nd, and part of 3rd on balding street tires....a lot of people dont truely believe me when i tell the the 106mph part.

Hmm thats weird, I have the exact same mods you do minus the High Stall Con. and I run a 14.5. Who tuned your programmer? BOC? Did you make sure to pull all the crap out of your trunk? I had a full size spare, a sub box with 2 12" and a few other items and ran a 14.9, pulled that crap out at the strip and ran a 14.55.
I guess location has a lot to do with it, altitude, humidity etc.
I think I've seen you on CVN, stopped going there on account of the vast majority of the population being D-bags.

I had the same mods on my car (stock converter) and @ the same track as Kurt (PantherP73) and ran a best of 14.97 there with a 14.99 average around 97-99 MPH

4:10 gears would have given you more go than the the torque converter.

I disagree, the right converter generally will net you more gains than a gear.
Then again the driveability is something to consider with a stall.
4:10 gears would have given you more go than the the torque converter.

I already have 3.73s... if I could do it again I would have gone 4.10s, but I road trip a lot and still like my 21-22 MPG.
UPDATE.... I have run two 14.94s and two 14.97s in the past few weeks. Tweaking my torque converter lockup schedule has bumped up my MPH as well... it was in the 89 MPH range... now almost 91.

I think your stall speed is too high. 2valves don't make the power at the high side like the 4v motor does. A 2600, 2800 and maybe a 3000 stall would be better suited for your engine power. Also if your tune isn't spot on with trans/torque converter stuff it will hurt you.
I went from 14.25 stock converter to 14.6x with 3500 stall converter that wasn't tuned right. Once I got the proper tune I went to 14.19, then 14.07 and at that point I put on my 16" drag radials and went 13.74 then 13.72.
