Hey guys, i was wondering if a CVPI driveshaft would fix the vibration on the MM. I ask this because there is a wrecked cruiser at my junkyard that i could get the driveshaft from really cheap, will it work and is it worth it. Its a 2003 cruiser too. Thanks,
Frank

Effster just put one in his Marauder. I believe they are approximately $200 from the dealer. $50 for the junk yard would be a good price. IMO

The only CVPI driveshaft that will work is the 1999-2000 one. It is a MMC (Metal Matrix Composite). It has "MMC Police" in small black letters on the lower end. The later PI shafts have "POLICE" stenciled on the middle in large letters. The 99-00 PI's had 3:55 gears and a 135 top speed, so they used the MMC shaft. The 2001 and up PI's use just a regular aluminum shaft (top spped lowered to 120). I matched one from a 2002 PI and the MM and they are virtually identical. Same weight, 13 lbs. The MMC Ford one is 16 lbs. The MMC Ford was discontinued last year, and the old part number crossed over to the new one, but it is not an MMC, just a regular aluminum shaft. I found a leftover dealer parts inventory MMC shaft when I got my MM and bought it. At the time there were about 15-20 of the old MMC shafts left in dealer stock all over the US. If you order the old number, you get the new shaft. It is no different than the stock MM shaft, just missing the round damper the MM has. I wouldn't buy a used Police shaft unless it is a MMC. Just my thoughts..

Hmmmmm, sounds like I need to check our inventory. Might be some late night swappin going on!! On another note, I can vouch on the 135 moh top speed with no perceivable drivetrain vibrations on the 2002's. I was wonderin if the shafts were different. Thanks for the info vegas.

The 2004 CVPIs however have 3.55 gears as option. This may mean they are using the police mmx shafts again as well

Will this really work? I found one down the road at a wrecking yard for $100.00. I haven't looked to see if it says MMC Police yet, but it's a 2000 CV/PI. If someone tells me this will bolt right in, I think I'll have to go get it.:help:

If it has the "MMC Police" on it printed in small letters axially, it's a keeper. the non MMC's just have "POLICE" in larger all capital letters running longitudally on the side. Usually the lower geared CVPI's are for in-city use. The highway interceptors get ordered with the taller gear. Also if a department carries everything under the sun in the trunk the 3:55 is a better gear. I will bet the top speed is computed to the rear gear and the 3:55 car will have a lower top speed than the 3:27 car to keep the drive shaft RPM's in the acceptable range.

IF the shaft says "MMC" in blue dot matrix, then it's a REAL "AMMX Police" drive shaft. Start of production was mid '98, and end was the very beginning of the '01 MY.
Yes, they are literally a "bolt in" affair.
