View Full Version : Safe to use silicone between TB / Plenum?

So i've been having issues the past couple weeks with high idle in park and neutral. I found out today that between the TB/Plenum, even though there is a new gasket, there is a huge vacuum leak pissing air like no tomorrow.

So... is it safe to use some "sensor safe" RTV silicone in addition to the gasket to get everything to seal properly?

I don't see why not.

One more question, the plenum I've got is 75mm all the way through, the TB is 70mm. Should I be using a 70 or a 75mm gasket?

I would go with the 70. it gives you more gasket against the throttlebody.

Ran into another problem... I lost the damn gasket (well actually my gf threw it away) for my intake plenum spacer. I'm thinking of just using a **** ton of rtv between the spacer and the plenum. Dumb idea?

NO! Not the intake plenum especially if you have a spacer! Take out the spacer for now, that's mostly bs anyway. you still have one gasket, right? Never noticed a dif with mine!

70 mm TB? Why? The OEM is 57, the openings on the manifold are 60, and a 62 is a mismatch. A 70 mm won't improve performance, but will probably leak.

He said the plenum was 75 though. I know if you don't port the plenum, dual 65mm blades won't open all the way, so it has to be port matched. Do you agree he shouldn't use rtv around the plenum itself? I think that's a lot of area to cover with vacuum and he should use the oem abs/silicone gasket if possible.
P.S. He's talking about TWO issues now!

I've never had to use silicone on a TB but I've never left parts laying around so the wife could get ahold of them.

lol yeah she decided to do some cleaning :mad2:

I'll just wait for the new gasket to come in the mail. I'm using the spacer because of a clearance issue I'm having. Thanks guys:burnout:

Wow, sorry 'bout that. It's a single blade round TB, right?
