View Full Version : Why is my car still in the high 12's???

I would have thought that with 445 H and 431 T that she would have dipped down into the low/mid 12's? I ran a 12.80, 12.85, and a 12.96 yesterday against Lowbucks 100 shot/tuned/4.10's 12.66! Is my trans slipping just a tad and i'm not feeling it? We both ran MT streets, my effective gear 3.73, his higher due to 17". I think I only had a little tire slippage on the second pass.
Mods, Trilogy 3.2, Kurgan/Zack tune, mufflers, and jmod.
It just seems that I have seen better numbers out there at slightly less HP numbers?
My 60 foot was always 1.75's, now it is a 1.86 but the top end feels way better than before (no more feeling like it's losing umph at the 1/8th mile mark), just constant good power. Plus my MPH went from 107 to 104.
I'll post photos and timeslips when I can.
Or is this just a normal time?
Bob you are losing two tenths or more on the sixty foot! I think you are spinning tires more than you think.
How humid was it when you went?

US 41 is better for traction. You lack 4:10s and a 3500 stall. That's why I'm at 12.3. If my car wasn't running rich I bet it would be faster.
We can trade cars next time at the track if you want me to test it. :D

I would Data log the entire run that will give a world of help in narrowing this down.

I think you are right, felt pretty good, but no video.
How humid was it when you went?
It's showing to have been 67% with a high in the morning of 89%. I raced in the morning...
I would Data log the entire run that will give a world of help in narrowing this down.
I will be next time. Even with 15 minute cool downs, I was going slower with every pass. I can't really see heat soak being an issue as it was only 65*.

SO I guess you don't wanna trade rides for a run.... :depress:
FYI when I go to the track on a humid day it usually means a reduction in ET by as much as .5
Did you verify the IC Pump is working?

Ah....No.
Did you verify the IC Pump is working?
Yes, when I noticed the increase in times, that was the first thing checked.

Please post all your numbers on the time slip, exact size/type tire, wheel size, tire psi. and temp when you ran.
Probably spinning.
I keep every run in an xcel file with all the above data.
I was spinning out past the launch and had to go back to my original low psi to eliminate the spinning.
I think Bob is intelligent enough to know if his tires are spinning.

R/T .166 (I know, fast asleep)
60' 1.841
330' 5.354
1/8th 8.225
MPH 87.02
1000' 10.687
1/4 12.808
MPH 106.55 (thought it was 104 earlier)
265/45/18 MT ET streets at 24 psi on this pass, spun a hair on second pass, dropped to 19 Psi on third and seemed to hook good again, but with a mildy scary shutdown.
If they were spinning, then it was the smoothest spin I ever had on these tires, sure felt good.
I also want to add that I am by far not jealous of Lowbuck's achievements, they are unbelievable for what he has done to his car and that car was a fun race the way he yanked out of the hole! I am just confused as I am 70 more HP than him but at the same time 50 something less tq. I told him atleast it was a Marauder that kicked my butt!
Can you post his numbers Bob? Bet he sprayed you out of the hole!

LowbuckMM's
R/t .126
60' 1.761

1/8th 8.021
MPH 85.36
1000' 10.519
1/4 12.662
MPH 105.01
Yes, he did spray out of the hole, untill he wore out his clutches...
The race was one in the first sixty feet plus you gave him a little on the reaction time. Get some bite and you will beat him!

No kidding Pops! So there I was enjoying a nice nap and WHAM I see the front end of his Marauder slam upwards! I was waiting that whole 1/4 mile for his nitrous to ease off. NEVER HAPPENED! I can't believe his tq numbers! I think he was 377 H 483 T IIRC. on a 100 shot!
Bob you get some good tires and you will beat him!:banana2: His car was running out of steam on the high end.You have a lot more left in your car if you want to go after it. But you will not be able to use it when you leave the car show!!!!!!:burnout:

Bob your car is still an awesome marauder all the time. mine only when the bottle is open. oh and its 373hp and 483ftlb.

the only reason why my car was running out of steam is cause i have 17inch tires i need taller ones. i have 255/55/18 as street tires and i have a 12.7 @108 with them tires.

what tires did you run on before?? If you go from a drag radial to a bias ply tire, expect a 2-3mph DROP and a .1-.2 LOSS in your times

Justbob, did you set your tuner to know you put smaller tires on than your street ones?

Same tires i've ran before, I averaged 13.1 (12.9 best) now it appears to be high 12.8's average, almost a 12.7 best. I see a little loss now on the 60' from before, but like I said, she is not losing steam like before at half track. Just a different feel, still quicker than before. She just feels soooo much better on the street, and perhaps my goals at the track were set too high? Thanks for chiming in here Bob.

Nope, I have never done this in the past, and I wanted to base this trip off doing exactly the same thing I have always done to see the difference. (Same tires/pressures/headlight and spare out)

This will help. I went from 12.6 to 12.3 just by making this correction with literally the same tires you have. Make the correction and make another pass. You will do better.

for every .01 you pick up at the 60ft, you pick up 2x at the 1/4..
so, if you picked up a tenth at the 60ft, expect a 2 tenth difference in your 1/4 mile ET..
Let me drive it! :D :burnout:

Bob is currently avoiding police as he drives thru 4 towns without a hood on his Marauder, on his way to get his hood put on it. He texted me, lol.

Yeah, he kind of forgot about the hood and got used to having the original again, then he got word it was going to be done.
I hope he can avoid the po-po. I loved his custom hood and can't wait to see it on again.

It was really pretty sharp TJ, he took a 78 Z-28 Scoop (I think it was '78) and welded it onto a Crown Vic hood. He painted it, but kept getting White Spec's on it which were driving him nuts. One of the members has been helping with it. It looked Sick :puke: in a good way. Never have seen anything like it on a Rauder, it was subtle and looked Bad Arse
