Who has tried or is running a Trans-go shift kit? Is it proven goood or bad? I picked one up for $36 new and trying to decide is this a better way or just J-mod my trans. Trans-Go site says its the same shift kit for the police interceptors. I don't have a tune yet and I know I can dial in the shift points even better when I get the tune.

I've heard bad things about Transgo and 4r70 transmissions.

I'd say a Jmod would be much better.

Nooooooo!!! do the J-mod all you need is a drill bit, gaskets and fluid. Cheak out this and read the articles by Jerry he was the creator of the AOD-4R family of trans.

I have the Transgo kit in my MM. I love it. I believe I have the level 2 due to the quick and firm shifts. I also had this done over 2 years ago with no problems whatsoever and before a tune.

So Darrin (resident tranny expert), would you recommend a Trans-Go kit or the j-mod?

Lidio had that kit on his Marauder back in the day.
He advised against it, due to the difficulty of tuning the car to behave the way he wanted.
Go J-mod and increase the the health of your transmission.

I would like to know also.

I've been using the search and found alot of different results on the J-mod and Trans-go kit. Both were positive(shifts quick) and negative(damaged transmission or didn't like the way it shifts in1-2 shifts). So what is what?? Is it the installers messing up the shift kits/j-mod or it's all a hit or miss?

Flip a coin at this point. You'll get neg. and pos. comments about both. I did a J-mod and think it's great.

about a month ago i did the j-mod to my Trilogy Marauder 3.75 $ for gaskets a few hours labor .Night and day differnce on how the car acts now .Normal driving firm shifts but not too firm but as you squeeze into the throttle the shifts become more agressive. For the money and if you have the skill i think you can not go wrong with the j-mod

So what about a 4R75W? J-Mod needed or can be performed on it as well?

here this is how the J-mod should be done on a 4R7 Trans. The 4r75 was blessed by ford with some heavy duty parts and is quite comfortable behind some high hp cars with slight mods to the main control.. It works great, your trans will reward you with firmer faster shifts and longer life.

I'm aware of that, I'm responding to the point that I liked the Trans-go and I've experienced no problems personally or with customers. Thowing in my $0.02.

I'll try to find the link, but Jerry Wroblewski, father of the 4R70W and the "J" in J-mod, has serious concerns with Trans-Go kits. He has a post on Modular Depot that explains why in great detail.
