View Full Version : Overhead Electronics not working

my overhead counsel that shows the temperature and remaining fuel is no longer working. The lights and the garage door buttons still work but the electronic screen is blank. Has anyone had this problem and know a fix?

Temperature? Remaining fuel? What kind of car do you have? I thought all they had in the overhead display was the compass.

You Sir, are correct!

Compass is all that is displayed in the Marauder overhead. 2004 had North South East West, 2003 had N S E W if I remember correctly.

Hmmm... Sounds like a Chevy.


Anywho.. if you are talking about the OHC in the Marauder, I would first check your ground in the trunk. Take the spare tire out, there should be a black wire somewhere in the middle of that rear seat cage, make sure its connected and not just hanging.

Give me a break guys geez, I had a similar counsel in my old car that had the temperature, compass and remaining fuel. It wasnt working when i first bought the MM so I assummed it had the same features. I will check in the trunk for the ground wire tho. Thanks Jackie

Well that explaines alot LOL. Yes, the overhead only displays the compass. There is a difference on just how it reads between the two years, either full script on 04's or abreiviated on 03's. Probably be able to grab just the compass out of a Grand Marquis upper counsel, hopefully someone that knows for sure will chime in.

Yes, my '03 MM 300B overhead CONSOLE just displays the 8 points of the compass with the abbreviations N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, and NW. The overhead console has never displayed temperature (that's on the dash climate control display when you press the "Outside Temperature" button). No display for remaining fuel except for the gas/fuel gauge indicator.

FYIW, on both the '03 and '04 MMs there is one button in the OHC that turns ON/OFF the compass feature and this button being turned ON causes the illumination of the Compass Points.

I took my compass out and installed the Scangauge II in it's place.

It's not for a MM, it has a switch for the backup alarm.

If it worked before and now is out, I will bet the module took a dump. this happened in the wife's 300A a few years ago. You can't buy it seperate from the dealer at that time. It was only available with the whole console. Found a used one from a CV and used the module.

By the way, 03-04 are the same module. In fact the front half of the console comes apart and you can put the 04 into the 03. I did that on a friend's 03 CV who wanted the garage door opener. Got a used 04 console in same color and changed the front section. Just had to splice the wire into the conenctor. (sorry, a bit of trivia for future use).

I would not be surprised if the compass module was the same for a few other Ford products.

I believe they are backlight w/ a "green-ish" hue IIRC turnintires. :confused:

My Marauder's valet lighting sucks ..poor illumination & time on is too short. You would think they thought we had a motorcycle battery. LOL
