Im trying to figure out what part of the schedule Im going to have to miss so I can visit the Wood Brothers shop in Harrisburg. Who knows how much longer they will be around and since Ive been a fan since the late 60's Ive got to go there. I think I will probably skip the winery and just meet you all for lunch that day and then go with the group to RCR.

I thought I would give them a call a few weeks ahead of time, that week is right after the Atlanta race and they dont run again until October so it should be ok. They are a small operation NASCAR-wise and from what Ive read you can (maybe) get a guided tour around the shop. Wont know til I call, and Ill wait til August to do that. Appreciate the offer and if anybody has been by the shop in Harrisburg lately, please let me know.

I have to formulate a plan to attend this. TOO much up in the air about retirement at this point. State is trying to put through a early retirement, but our union is still in arbitration, has been for years. No contract since 2003. Last arb award was in 05. :mad2:

If you can work out your schedule for a Wood Brothers shop side trip, wife and I would surely like to follow you. The Wood Brothers were a magical name in my earlier years. A trip to their shop would be excellent.

Well, let's start with this:

"Dear Watch Commander,

Please excuse Ray from work from Sept. 8th - 13th to attend his grandmother's funeral.

Sincerely,

Ray's Mom"

Will that work? ;)

This itinerary looks terrific. Can't wait til September.

Last night I watched the NASCAR "Hall of Fame" Induction Ceremony for the Inaugural Class on the SPEED Channel. The building looks great inside and out. This will be a great way to spend the Saturday at MV8. Do we need to book tickets in advance? Or will that be handled through the MV8 registration process?

BTW --- the first five inductees to the NASCAR H.O.F. were Bill France, Sr., Bill France, Jr., Junior Johnson, Richard Petty and Dale Earnardt. They were selected from an initials set of 25 nominees.

Charlie, HOF tickets will be handled through the registration process.

We're working the logistics over the next few weeks, and will then post up an Eventbrite link for registration that will spell out all the details.

We're really excited about hosting MV8, I think this will be an event to remember for years to come.

Spoke to Kim Hall at the Wood Brothers shop this am and she said no problem on a shop visit but I think there is like a public area and a private area and right now its just the public area. If anybody else is interested, Im going to visit this shop in lieu of the winery visit (I have PM'd Rex on this and he understands for us out-of-towners this may be our only chance to do this) I plan on meeting up with the rest of the group in Lexington for lunch and the rest of the schedule. If anybody else is interested, let me know as Ill call the shop a couple of weeks in advance and give them a guesstimate on our numbers. There is no cost to visit the shop. Thanks again for all the hard work of the MMVIII planners by the way, I know its not as easy as some might think.

No one is upset for you wanting to do something different--cause --that's just it--there is so much to choose to do --we in the planning group can only put what we think everyone will like or have fun doing---there is no problem with choosing to do different--we kinda expected it--since there are so many choices--a lot like MVIV in Fla...We jusy want everyone to have fun and enjoy themselves and for that reason we have hopefully put together a plate you can enjoy.

Here is something to get everyone maybe on the fence some words to think by:

Marauderville VIII Theme

Its not unique its called the Eighth,
For this Marauderville is with fate,
NASCAR now has their five,
We know however, the Marauder is still alive

So don’t be late,
Cause you will be in hate-
For there is fun
Found under those buns!

We will travel the lands
Of the Carolinas in Black, Silver,
Dark Toreador and Blue,
So you can enjoy
Having been there too

Each day will bring,
A unique new thing,
You haven’t seen
Since you were a teen

Your amazement of the days shoots,
Will bring you to want morrow,
But at the end of the days event,
You will breath a relief of knowing , there is a tomorrow

Don’t say it will end,
Cause it is for us kin,
That takes us from one to one another,
Till we meet again.

Don’t be a stranger to each other,
You know we are the same brother,
Wanting to know and feel the car,
With you and others the answer is not far

So Come on down to Charlotte this year-
You have heard the old saying- wish I’d been there-
so don’t despair,

We will say for sure
on your leave without fear,
Ya’ll come back now, Ya’ll hear!!

I will join you for this trip as I follow the Woods Brothers early on in NASCAR:up:

Probably too late to suggest this but any way to do our awards ect at a dinner on Saturday evening instead of Sunday morning? Otherwise some of us will be staring at our watches itching to hit the road for the looonnngggg return trip. Just a suggestion from the peanut gallery.

I know what you mean, in years past I always want to say farewells however with a long ride ahead it's good to get a "jump" on the day.

Ill call the Wood Bros shop next week and just tell them about ten (10) people (in case we get more folks wanting to go). The lady I spoke with earlier said no problem and Ive got no idea if we can get back to where they prep the cars or not. We will have to play that by ear. It will be the week after the Atlanta race but then the team doesnt run again for a month, I assume they will still have a staff there, we shall see. On a side note, I sent an email to 21st Century Insurance (owned by Farmers) suggesting they become a part time sponsor of the Wood Bros. It truely bums me out they can only run 13 races a year. The team refuses to do the alternative "start and park" like alot of other teams. Anyway, Il keep everyone posted here. Jim

The Hall of Fame, our ONLY scheduled item for Saturday is that because the average time spent there is 4 hours---most tend to spend longer to make sure they get to see and view all of it........so opening at 10 AM ..( we will be leaving 9:15 in groups).........you may be there longer if you like that kind of fun sighting...........

So..afternoon free...yes........depending on when you leave the Hall and return back to the Hotel for parking lot hooplaw...........or maybe a return trip to Bikinis

I called the Wood Brothers shop today just to reconfirm our shop visit. They were very nice and are expecting us at 10 am on Thursday the 9th (in lieu of the winery visit). We can still meet up with the main group at Lexington BBQ for lunch and continue with the scheduled program from there. Guess we can meet in the lobby of the hotel at 9:30 as it is just a short hop over to the Wood Brothers shop from the hotel. :)
