Actually one additional one and one to be swapped to a different type.

Since I was in ATL anyway I zipped on down to Summit and picked up another gauge. I'm switching my oil pressure gauge to an oil temperature gauge. The gauges in my console pod will be Oil Temp, Volts, Trans Temp. All 3 are 90 degree sweep. I'm adding a gauge to the A-pillar with the new pod I got from ntd. A mechanical Oil Pressure, electronic Boost/Vac with memory, electronic Fuel Pressure. All 3 are full sweep. The low oil pressure warning LED will be mounted at eye level on the A-pillar pod, too. The boost/Vac and Fuel Pressure are already there in my Autometer A-pillar pod.

Tired of replacing sending units on the electronic oil pressure gauge.

Better hope you never have any problems with the oil line on your mechanical gauge. It will be like the Gulf oil spill debacle in your car!

I have had my Cyberdyne electronic digital oil pressure gauge for 3 years now and never had a problem. (Knock on wood) The gauge also has an adjustable low pressure warning with memory for Lo & Hi and will start to blink the display when it hits preset. I wonder what is going on with the Autometer unit though?

It's a stupid antiquated design. Most pressure sending units, including the ford ones for functional oil pressure gauges, use an electronic pressure transducer. The Autometer one uses an electro-mechanical design where the pressurized oil moves a diaphragm which is attached to a lever, then the lever moves a wiper contact on a wire-wound rheostat to change the resistance the gauge sees.

Set it up as an xgauge.

I found if you make sure it's still new looking, you can return the old one in the new one's package and get another. So it at least makes it: Buy one, get one free! :D

I didn't realize that the Autometer sending unit was such a Rube Goldberg design!
'Knock on wood'....Mine is still functioning after 4+ years.

BTW: I was immediately attracted by this thread's title...I wonder why?....:hmmm:
