yesterday before i cruzed down to OC i noticed a little squeak coming from under the hood and i was pretty sure it was coming from the alternator but proceeded anyway . i was keeping an eye on the voltage the whole time i was going down there and it seemed pretty normal ranging from 13.5-13.8. as we were cruzing up and down OC i noticed the voltage started dropping off so i decided id better start heading home since the closer i get the cheaper the tow bill will be . on the way home it got as low as 12.8 and ranged from 13.0 -13.4. do i just have bad luck with alternators or is something else going on here?

my aeroforce has always read from 13.2 to 13.6vdc while cruisng, but at the light it drops to 13.0 and if its night time, sometimes i see 12.6vdc sitting at the red light.
If it lowers 12.6vdc you have a problem if not i wouldnt worry about.
but i would check the squeak for sure.

Dave, my OEM guage has dipped into the mid 12's for the last two years at red lights while running accessories. Matter of fact the lights on my whole dash flicker softly at night even with nothing else on. Never given me a lick of troubles.
