View Full Version : A/C Leak

For a while my Marauder was slowly leaking refrigerant from the A/C. I could never figure out where it was leaking from. About a week ago I did a small recharge of the system. Within a day or two it started leaking again, but even worse. It was in the height of the heat around Chicago this past weekend. I turned on the A/C then I started to get a strong scent of some of the stuff in the refrigerant, and the air coming from the vents wasn't getting as cool as it was when I first added refrigerant the day or so prior. So, can anyone point me to the likely culprit that's leaking and what it'll probably cost to repair?
You need to put dye in the system to pinpoint the leak...or look for an oily film on all AC Components

I did put some UV dye in with the last recharge, but all I saw of the dye outside the system was what got splattered around because I forgot to put a rag over the recharge hose before disconnecting it, which I feel pretty damned silly about.

Clean your engine compartment and start over with the dye.

Well, an engine compartment cleaning is already in the plan. I try to get that done every summer, and it's looking pretty dirty from this past winter and fall (lot of construction late last summer and into the fall). Guess I'll give it another look-see once that gets done.

Go to a shop with a sniffer and ask them to find the leak for you. It detects any leak from the system as you move it around the parts. They should be willing to do it for free we always did.

most shops around me charge 1 hour labor to check for leaks with a sniffer, measure a/c vent temperatures, and possibly connect a manifold guage set. you're shop sounds like a killer deal. where are you located?
